Liverpool assign Schlumberger as their new head of recovery

Wed 30 December 2020 | 11:13

The Reds decided to add a new member to their medical staff following the injury crisis on the team.

Liverpool

have decided to appoint doctor

Andreas Schlumberger

, who has an experience of working with

Schalke

, as the club’s first head of recovery and performance. According to the Reds, Schlumberger will

“support and work in close collaboration with the current performance, medical and rehabilitation leadership”.

Schlumberger also has an experience of working with other Bundesliga clubs and with the long list of absentees in Liverpool he could be a good addition to their staff.

Virgil van Dijk

,

Joe Gomez

,

Thiago Alcantara

,

Diogo Jota

, and

Konstantinos Tsimikas

are all sidelined due to their knee injuries while

Naby Keita

and

Joel Matip

suffer from muscle problems. On the other hand

Trent Alexander-Arnold

,

James Milner

, and

Xherdan Shaqiri

just recently joined the team after spending a while in recovery.

Liverpool manager,

Jurgen Klopp

, has already expressed his concerns over the players’ injuries while also admitting that the back-to-back to matches could lay more pressure on his men. And though he hoped for the availability of the five substitutions option on a match, it was later revealed that option has been voted down by the Premier League clubs.
