Adelaide United’s new shot-stopper pulled off some impressive saves in the drawn clash against Western United.

James Delianov

showed off a great performance against his former club,

Western United

. However, he was rested most of the season due to the injury he sustained. In 2019, before joining Western United, Delianov was playing for

Melbourne City

practicing with his current mentor and coach Eugene Galekovic. The 21-year-old is enjoying his time with

Adelaide United

’s legend.

I played with Eugene in my last year at Melbourne City and basically our relationship has kind of continued on,

” he said.

It’s a little bit different him being a coach but I’m loving every minute of it.”

The Australian goalkeeper admitted that he tried not to over analyze everything before the game.

“I just took it as another game,

” Delianov revealed.

And just tried to do my thing, as I said I’m happy with the clean sheet but spewing we didn’t get the win.

Delianov sustained a ligament injury at the beginning of the campaign and was struggling for form ever since.

Whenever someone does their ACL it’s very tough,

” he said.

There’s moments where you think you’re not going to play football ever again especially for me.

“I worked with a physio at Western United and did really well so just kept pushing and really grateful for the opportunity that’s arisen here, so hopefully many more clean sheets to come

.”

According to Delianov, the reason behind his agreement to join Adelaide was the fact that he would be a starting goalkeeper, as Paul Izzo moved to Greece.

Izzo has left big shoes to fill for me,

” he admitted.

He’s a phenomenal ‘keeper… but I’m just here working hard every day and trying to do my best every day really.
