Leeds receive a major blow with Llorente’s injury

Bielsa’s squad could miss three of their main defenders on Tuesday due to injury.

Leeds United

manager, Marcelo Bielsa, will face a great challenge against

West Brom

as he may be forced to step into the pitch without three of his central-defenders including

Diego Llorente

. Though Leeds were able to end their Sunday win over

Burnley

with a clean-sheet despite the absence of

Liam Cooper

,

Robin Koch

, and Llorente, Bielsa was hoping to see Llorente back on the pitch.

“He had a setback on Wednesday and from there he hasn’t evolved,”

Bielsa

revealed.

“He stopped being an option for the game (on Saturday).”

During their Burnley match, the Leeds coach decided to assign

Kalvin Phillips

,

Luke Ayling

, and

Pascal Struijk

into the heart of their defense.

“Phillips is player with a big capacity to adapt to playing in different positions on the pitch,” Bielsa said.

“The times where he has had to play as a centre-back in a back-three, every time he has had good responses and played with authority and he did today as well.”

Bielsa added on

Struijk

’s performance, saying:

“Yes, he was very influential and he contributed a lot to our defensive stability in the middle.”

Leeds currently sit 12th in the

Premier League

table with the possibility of ending the year in the first half of the table.

“Our objective was to compete on an even keel with all our opponents in the Premier League, but it’s not an easy task,” Bielsa added.

“For example, if you look at what happened at the end of the second half (against Burnley), in which we had to adapt to a situation which we hadn’t faced up until now.”

“The result was in danger. Every game in the Premier League is a big challenge.”

In return Burnley coach,

Sean Dyche

, also has to deal with his long list of absentees when they face

Sheffield United

on Tuesday.

“With the two games in three days we’ve had to make a judgement call on that,”

said Dyche.

“I think they’ve both got a chance so we’ll wait and see what tomorrow brings.”
