De Bruyne runs like non-league footballers - Guardiola

Sun 27 December 2020 | 15:29

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has praised Kevin De Bruyne for his running style on the pitch.

The Spanish coach believes that his team's Belgian star runs on the field with the hunger of non-league's players while he is one of the great stars of the football world.

This ability of De Bruyne has helped

Manchester City

achieve good results despite the busy and challenging calendar it has gone through so far. They beat Newcastle last night with goals from Ilkay Gundogan and Ferran Torres. De Bruyne played 90 minutes against Newcastle, and it was his 12th of the season in which he played the full game. Now Guardiola praised the Belgian star of his team.

"We need him. Kevin is one of the biggest stars in the world right now and runs without the ball like he is a player from the Conference,"

he said.

"He is an outstanding player, I know how important he is for us.

"Sometimes, for example, like in the game against Arsenal, he did not travel. I prefer to have him fit and focused in the Premier League.

"The other competitions are important but right now we don't want to be far, far away from the top of the league.

"We are going to find our rhythm and we are going to be close to the top of the league, hopefully in the last eight or 10 games of the league, being there to fight against the teams above us."
