Torres eager to fill in Guardiola’s option as centre-forward

Sun 27 December 2020 | 14:40

The Spain international is determined to contribute to his side as a centre-forward.

Ferran Torres

believes he can be a valuable asset to

Manchester City

when

Pep Guardiola

assigned him at centre forward. According to City’s manager, the Etihad club will not make transfers in January, notwithstanding their need for more goals to fight for the title.

Torres has joined Manchester City last summer from

Valencia

. The 20-year-old is certain of his qualifications as hi fills the No.9 role and wants to let some pressure off Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus.

I'm comfortable [playing at striker] and happy with the goal today,

” Torres said. “

I just have to keep on working to keep scoring more goals

!

The manager at half-time just wanted us to keep doing our jobs, find the spaces, and make the most of them.

“It's important for us to score goals, and to play well up front, but it's just as important to not concede and to have good performances offensively and that's what we're doing.”

Notwithstanding

Newcastle

’s committed performance on Saturday, City rose to the occasion, grabbing all three points which really satisfied Torres.

They were very well set up and they tried to defend deep and we just needed to do the job and we did it,

” he commented.

City are a big team, so we always have to win and that is something that is happening now and we just need to keep the momentum now.”

Manchester City’s hectic fixture will hand them a clash against

Everton

on Monday. They will then lock horns with

Chelsea

on January 3. City are sitting fifth on the

Premier League

table, lacking five points from the current titleholders

Liverpool

.
