Players lacked the basics of football, says Lampard

The young English manager of Chelsea criticized his players after an away defeat against Arsenal.

Chelsea

suffered a humiliating defeat against a team which has won a match for the first time in the Premier League after two months.

Frank Lampard

however decided to criticize the players after the defeat. Werner, Chilwell, Thiago Silva, Mendy, and Havertz who came on later in the match were all the summer signings of Lampard himself but the English manager threatens to drop his stars.

Asked why his team didn't perform to their best against the Gunners, the 42-year-old head coach told talkSPORT:

“I can’t answer that because some things you can reflect on in terms of tactics, preparation and all these things but in terms of effort it’s something that just has to be a given in football. The players got it wrong.

“I can’t defend the first half because they lacked the basics of football.

“The message was clear to the players. It was to be a tough game against a team that’s fighting, a team of quality, a team that would give everything for a London derby. The players have to take responsibility for that first half.”
