Cavani should bide his time before getting regular starts - Solskjaer

Sat 26 December 2020 | 18:22

The Uruguay international climbed off the bench to contribute an assist in the clash against Leicester.

Edinson Cavani

has to wait to be regularly featuring for

Manchester United

, according to

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

. The United striker came off the bench and helped Bruno Fernandes find the target in the 2-2 tied clash against

Leicester

. A few days earlier, the 33-year-old met the back of the net in the Carabao Cup battle against

Everton

which came down to a 2-0 victory for the Reds.

Former United Paul Scholes believes Cavani should not be benched and Solskjaer must play him regularly. However, the Uruguayan might not be able to feature in all competitions as United are going to be prepared for a packed fixture of six games in 16 days, given his age.

He has been out injured for a little while and played a full, physically-demanding game against Everton in midweek,

" Solskjaer said. “

We decided to have him on the bench and he made an impact straight away, with a great pass for the goal.

“It will have to be that way for a while as he gets used to English football and the demands of this season, but he made a great impact here and he has made a big impact in the squad

.”

The United boss hailed

Marcus Rashford

, as the England international scored his 50th

Premier League

goal for his side in the drawn clash with Leicester.

Both as a player and person he has been absolutely brilliant

,” Solskjaer said of Rashford. “

We are very proud of him as a person and a player. He was always a threat. We create chances for him and he creates them for others

.”

Rashford sustained a shoulder injury during the competition at King Power Stadium and Solskjaer is hanging on to hope that it isn’t anything serious.
