Gasperini urges Atalanta to be careful against 'dangerous' Bologna

Tue 22 December 2020 | 14:53

Atalanta’s head-coach, who was in the headlines because of his captain’s situation, admitted the recent chaos ‘takes the attention away from the performances'.

Bologna

achieved a 1-0 victory last time the two sides met at Gewiss Stadium, and

Gasperini

urged his side to be aware of Bologna’s attacking threats.

“It was a particular match, we had chances,”

Gasperini

said at a press conference.

“Bologna are a dangerous team, especially in attack.

“It will require attention, but we come from a series of results that we want to build on.”

La Dea’s left-back,

Robin Gosens

, has scored two goals in his last three Serie A appearances, and the manager hailed him as ‘one of the best’ left-backs in the world.

“I don’t think he’s underestimated, he plays for the national team too,”

the coach added.

“This is already a sign of what he is doing in the League, for the goals he scored.

“He’s one of the best in his role.”

The Italian manager boasted about his many attacking options as

Ruslan Malinovskyi

,

Josip Ilicic

,

Mario Pasalic

, and

Aleksei Miranchuk

are available.

“There was a time when we had Malinovskyi, Ilicic and Pasalic out,”

he said.

“We are now recovering all of them.

“Miranchuk is available. With the recovery of these players, we have better chances. I have always tried to play attacking teams.”

Gasperini

admitted his players might be affected by the constant talk about the

Papu Gomez’s

situation that gained a lot of attention from the media.

“The players have a strong focus on what we must do on the pitch, these are exceptions off the pitch that take the attention away from what we have done on the pitch.”

Atalanta’s

manager also said La Dea are ‘on the right path’ as his side crushed

Roma

4-1 last week, and stressed he will not be diving into the transfer market as his captain is about to leave the club.

“The first half didn’t go too bad, we conceded the goal but then Roma didn’t do much,”

he said.

“As the minutes passed, our confidence grew.

“We close with the match in Bologna, then we have a short break, you usually arrive in this period with the first round over, but there are many games left.

“We must figure out how to solidify this team, who are on the right path. We have to work well with what we have, there’s room for growth.

“I don’t think there are many alternatives in January.”

Atalanta

currently sit

seventh

in Serie A’s table, 10 points behind League leaders

Milan

with one game in hand.
