Nat Phillips: “Nothing formal other than over the summer”.

Liverpool

23-year-old center-back,

Nathaniel Harry Phillips

did not have a proper chance to feature for

Premier League

champions.

He spent most of the season on loan in the German club,

VfB Stuttgart

.

Due to heavy traffic in the Reds defensive line, he was not likely to be picked up by the German boss,

Jurgen Klopp

and with teams from Bundesliga and Championship seeking to sign the English defender, his departure was not unexpected.

However, after a series of injuries in the defensive line and absence of

Virgil van Dijk

and

Joe Gomez

, Phillips was finally able to find his way to the main squad, appearing in two clashes against Brighton and West Ham.

Now,

Phillips

has spoken about his future at the club and the talk he had with Jurgen Klopp;

“Nothing formal other than over the summer,”

Phillips said

“We obviously didn’t really know what was happening then, that was the last formal chat we had with regards to what my plan was and obviously the situation was completely different then.

“Since then, we’ve had the odd exchange of words. If it looks like I’m going to be playing at the weekend he’ll just ask me if I feel that I’m ready.

“And like I said before, he just tells me to enjoy myself and play my game like he knows that I can do.

“I don’t think you could ever say you’re fully settled because every day you are competing for a place in the squad.

“So I think you would be a bit foolish to get too comfortable because every day you’ve got to be working hard to make sure you’re in the squad at the weekend.”
