Andrea Consigli's fantastic saves helped 10-men Sassuolo to maintain their fragile 1-0 victory over Benevento and fly to second in Serie A table.

Domenico Berardi

opened the scoring from the spot-kick for

early in the first half, but

Lukas Haraslin

was sent off in the 49th minutes of the game and the Sassuolo had to work hard to protect their lead.

Sassuolo’s goalkeeper,

Andrea Consigli

, managed to keep a clean sheet with some great saves at the end of the game which brought them three points and second place in the League table as well.

“I’m happy, it was a difficult match,” Consigli told Sky Sport Italia. “The pitch was bad, and they have a great defense.

“There were only 10 left of us, and we had to suffer. These great years have also led to wins like this.

“The saves release the tension. We have always been told that we don’t know how to defend with determination and today we responded.

“We haven’t played as well as we know for a while, because our opponents are studying us. Absences certainly weigh, but you have to win matches in other ways too and it’s nice to win like this.”
