Fans, teammates, and friends of Paolo Rossi remember the Italy legend and World Cup winner, who died at the age of 64 on Wednesday
Paolo Rossi's son said the Italy legend left calmly: 'We were all with him, he left surrounded by his loved ones'
He was fantastic father, very simple, humble, as you have known him,
" his son Alessandro told reporters in Siena, in front of the hospital where Rossi died.
"He was fantastic in private life. He never said no to anyone, he was always available to help others. His greatest quality was altruism."
Alessandro was born in 1982, the year his father won the World Cup.
"It was probably my dad's best year ever, he won the World Cup and his first child was born.
He should not be worried, I'll take care of my little sisters for our family,
" he continued.
Rossi also had two daughters, aged 8 and 11, born to his second wife.
"It's a promise I made him. I told him that I'll always be there, I owe it to him.
"He had an illness for a few months and in the last 10 days there has been a worsening and he was hospitalized.
"Dad fought a lot, he never gave up a second in these 4-5 months. When we thought there was even the slightest hope, the disease degenerated, and no matter how hard he tried to fight it, the disease won.
"He left peacefully, we were all with him, he left surrounded by his loved ones. Dad will always remain in our hearts."
