Guardiola reveals Aguero won’t start the Manchester derby

Thu 10 December 2020 | 5:50

After 10 minutes back from a long injury, Aguero scored in Manchester City’s 3-0 victory against Marseille. The Argentine had missed the beginning of the season due to a knee injury in the summer and a further hamstring setback.

Aguero

was a 67th-minute substitute against

Marseille

after he joined the first-team training earlier this month. He scored the

City’s

second goal in their 3-0 home Champions League victory against Marseille.

"His instinct to score will always be there," Guardiola said after the game. "He had three or four training sessions, his reaction was good. He played 25 minutes and scored a goal but it's step-by-step.

"The most important thing is his reaction tomorrow."

When

Guardiola

was asked if Aguero will start the Manchester derby, he denied the possibility.

Thanks to his goal,

Aguero

is now level with PSG's

Neymar

as the second-top South American goalscorer within the competition with 41 goals, behind Barcelona's

Lionel Messi

on 118.

Citizens’ summer signing,

Ferran Torres

, started as the number 9 against

Marseille

, and though he’s a winger, he showed a brilliant display against the French side and scored the opener. He has now scored 5 goals in his 6 matches for

Man City

, giving more options to the Spanish manager to put more pressure on

Solskjaer’s

side who suffered an early Champions League exit against

Leipzig

on Tuesday.

"I'm really happy for the way we played in all the games without exception,"

Guardiola

added of the Champions League.

"We scored goals and we conceded few.

"Now it’s time to celebrate and tomorrow I am going to think about the Premier League and the derby. We have two days to think about it."
