Wed 09 December 2020 | 15:09

Gabriel Martinelli has had a competitive comeback after being sidelined with an injury.

The Brazilian striker,

Martinelli

, made the

Gunnars

happy as he turned out in club colors for the clash against

AFC Wimbledon

.

He played for Arsenal on Tuesday night 45 minutes before being withdrawn at half-time.

Arsenal U21 ended the game with a 3-0 defeat to their opponents while

Tim Akinola

and

William Saliba

were sent-off in the final few minutes.

Martinelli has been out of action since March due to a training injury while he could become one of the main players of

Mikel Arteta

's team.

The injury keeps him out of Arsenal’s

FA Cup

and

Community Shield

triumphs earlier this year but he signed a new contract with the club over the summer and he gave a positive update over his recovery.

He said: “I’m feeling very well, I’m regaining confidence and I can feel my knee is better. After an injury like this you are kind of scared to force the knee again but the past couple of weeks it has been fine and soon I can start training with the ball.

“I think we have an excellent squad and along with Mikel’s forward-thinking and winning mentality, we can carry on doing well. We are playing well and training well, everyone wants to win and we are all giving everything. I believe this season is very promising.

“We won trophies last season and I believe we can win this season again and also qualify for the

Champions League

.”
