‘Fonseca must keep calm, Maresca made correct decisions’ – Rocchi

Mon 07 December 2020 | 14:24

The former Italian referee Gianluca Rocchi admits that he was impressed by Fabio Maresca’s correct decisions and believes A.S. Roma manager Paulo Fonseca must ‘keep calm.’

Fonseca

was furious and later sent off when a red card was shown to

Pedro Ledesma

in

Roma

’s

Serie A

clash with Sassuolo on Sunday. The referee Maresca received a lot of criticism regarding giving a reckless tackle to Pedro Obiang, however. The Giallorossi have had one goal ruled out after VAR check and were reluctant to protest for a penalty kick.

Rocchi

concedes that

Fabio Maresca

’s refereeing was on point and correct.

When there is a wrong decision everyone only focuses on that. Overall, I saw may correct decisions taken by Maresca,

” he said.

One doesn’t become a bad referee if he takes a wrong decision on a penalty. Understanding the error has two purposes: the first do not make mistakes anymore, the second is to understand why he made a mistake.

“We’ve already had a meeting with Roma, Fonseca is an extremely available person,

" he continued.

In the first half he protested for decisions that were less wrong than what he thought. Dealing with the referee in that way can lead to consequences.

“One must keep calm. It can happen to find a person under stress on the other side. Maresca’s decision to send him off was legitimate

.”
