He is underrated and selfless- Ferdinand praises Wijnaldum

Former Red Devils star believes that Liverpool midfielder should be appreciated more by the fans.

Georginio Wijnaldum

has been one of Jurgen Klopp’s

midfield

favorites for the past couple of seasons. However, the Dutch midfielder’s contract will be expired by the end of the season and there is still no sign of interest from the English side to extend his contract. The 30-year-old has been linked heavily with

Barcelona

as he is reportedly one of Koeman’s favorite players to be added to his squad. After Liverpool’s Champions League victory against

Ajax

on Tuesday,

Rio Ferdinand

spoke about Wijnaldum and his contribution to Klopp’s team.

“I got to be honest: I love this player,”

said Ferdinand on

BT Sport

.

“He’s very selfless, his intelligence, he’s underrated completely because he can play every single midfield position in that central area.

“He’s plays a No.10 role for Holland, the way he defends here [for Liverpool].”

Explaining the reason why players like Wijnaldum are appreciated less by the fans, Ferdinand added:

“We do get players who you play with in your career who fans probably don’t appreciate as much,

“Because on the pitch you know how much work they’re getting through, how valuable they are.”

Liverpool will play against

Wolves

on Sunday before continuing their Champions League campaign with a match against Midtjylland three days later.
