Barcelona skipper Lionel Messi has been charged €600 by the Primera Division's Competition Committee corresponding to the yellow card the player got at the end of the week against Osasuna

Messi was penalized for removing his

jersey after finding the net beautifully to uncover a Newell's Old Boys shirt underneath, in recognition for the late Argentine icon

Diego Maradona

who died prior that week.

Messi has been given an admonition by the Competition Committee just as a fine of €600 for violation of section 91 of the Disciplinary Law.

It's a gentle punishment given that it might have reached €3,000. Barcelona also has been fined €350 as per section 52 of the Disciplinary Law.

Barcelona is will probably plea the Competition Committee, considering such occurrences in the past by Jose Callejon and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Referee Mateu Lahoz, had no way out to give the yellow card and recorded in his match report precisely the reason.

“In minute 73 the player (10) Messi Cuccittini, Lionel Andres was booked for the following reason,” the report said.

“For removing his shirt, after scoring a goal, showing a new shirt of the Newell’s Old Boys team, from the 93/94 season, with the number 10 on the back.”

This is an official report that will be documented in Spanish football history.
