What is up with Inter?

We will start our match preview with Inter. Inter is already second in their group with four points after Barcelona on top which have achieved seven points. The team have drawn their match against Slavia Prague with a 1-1 result on matchday one. They went on to meet Barcelona in matchday 2 where they were beaten 2-1. Afterward, they met Dortmund in-home beating them 2-0 and so tonight they will meet BVBs again in the second leg of the match.

On the other side, there are Dortmund, already third in their group with the same point as their rivals. Their matchday one clash was against Barcelona which ended in a 0-0 draw. As their second match, they went against Slavia Prague, beating them 2-0 and on matchday three they went against their today rivals which we have already mentioned.  

Inter absentees

Nerazzurri will again miss the services Alexis Sanchez due to his ankle problem. This is while their full-back, Danilo D'Ambrosio will also be missed with a broken toe.

Considering the number of injuries, it has to be said that Antonio Conte will have lots of problems with the squad as Kwadwo Asamoah is also out due to his knee problem.

Besides their absentees, it is assumed that Diego Godin and Candreva who both missed the match against Bologna on Saturday will return to the starting XI for this match.

Dortmund absentees

Good news for the team fans is that Paco Alcacer, who has scored 10 times in 12 appearances for club and country during this season, finally could come off the bench against Wolfsburg on Saturday, featuring for the first time since the end of September. However, we have to wait and see if the Spanish player can come on the pitch for this match or not.

If he does not, Marco Reus is to fulfill him while he has also recovered from a recent injury of his own, but goalkeeper Roman Burki remains a doubt through illness.

Favre will also miss Marcel Schmelzer, who has a hip problem.

About the teams’ stars, it has to be mentioned that Lautaro Martínez is looking to become the first player to score in three consecutive UEFA Champions League appearances for Inter Milan since Samuel Eto’o scored in four in a row in 2010. The only other Argentinian to do so for the club was Hernán Crespo in 2002.

Marco Reus, who has scored 17 goals, needs one more goal to overtake Robert Lewandowski with also 17 and become Borussia Dortmund’s outright top scoring player in Champions League history; however, the German has gone six appearances without scoring in the competition, his longest ever goalless drought since his debut in September 2012.

It has to be mentioned that Antonio Conte has lost five of his last seven away Champions League games across spells with Juventus, Chelsea and now Inter, with two wins; he had only fallen to one defeat in his first six away matches in the competition as a manager beforehand, with two wins and two draws.

The last fact is that In Inter’s 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund last time out, Samir Handanovic kept his first clean sheet in the Champions League in his ninth appearance in the competition.
