Real Madrid is considering Pochettino and Raul as Zidane’s replacement

Wed 02 December 2020 | 10:19

According to Marca, Real Madrid is considering the future of Zidane following the Champions League defeat against Shakhtar.

Although

Zidane

is highly praised by the Madrid hierarchy because of his achievements, a tough decision might be necessary if the French couldn’t improve the current situation.

Two of the potential replacements the boardroom is considering are

Mauricio Pochettino

as the first choice, and

Raul

, who is currently in charge of

Castilla

.

Pochettino was close to taking the role after

Rafael Benitez

was sacked, but

Tottenham’s

chairman, Daniel Levy, prevented it from happening. However,

Pochettino

has never hidden his interest in the position.

The other candidate is Madrid’s legend,

Raul

, who currently is

Castilla’s

head coach. Although he’s seen as a future first-team manager, the boardroom tends to avoid bringing a young manager into such an unstable situation.

Earlier this week

Zidane

maintained he won’t resign from his position, so the future Madrid’s matches against

Sevilla

,

Monchengladbach,

and

Atletico Madrid

are decisive to his future.
