The victory against Roma can be a starting point for Napoli - Insigne

Mon 30 November 2020 | 10:02

Napoli, wearing Argentina-style shirts to pay homage to late Diego Maradona, hammered AS Roma 4-0 in Serie A on Sunday.

Lorenzo Insigne

fired an opener with a stunning free-kick way behind the box in the 30th minute and celebrated his goal by kissing Diego Maradona's shirt in a touching tribute to the late legend.

Fabian Ruiz

,

Dries Mertens

and

Matteo Politano

added three more to demolish AS Roma at Stadio San Paolo which will be renamed after Diego Maradona.

“The atmosphere certainly gave us extra motivation, as we wanted to pay homage to our idol. It hurts and we cared more than ever tonight to put in a great performance for him and the city that is suffering,” Insigne told Sky Sport Italia.

With the three points from the game, Napoli moved to fifth place with 17 points ahead of Roma on goal difference, joining Juventus.

“We approached this game in the best possible way, studied Roma carefully. We have a lot of quality, but at times make avoidable errors and don’t have the right mentality.

“I hope this can be a starting point, because if we play like this, we can cause serious problems for anyone. If we keep this up, with our feet on the ground, we can achieve great things.”
