Udinese and coronavirus outbreak

Sun 29 November 2020 | 11:54

Udinese are hit with COVID-19 outbreak and will not have six of their player in the match against Lazio.

Udinese

and

Lazio

are set to face each other today in

Serie A

.

Udinese

squad list was released and shockingly,

Stefano Okaka, Kevin Lasagna, Ilija Nestorovski, Sebastien De Maio, Thomas Ouwejan and Rolando Mandragora

were not in the list. What surprised the fans even more was the absence of the head coach,

Luca Gotti

.

Now the club’s director,

Pierpaolo Marino

has confirmed that the players and the Gotti have tested positive for

COVID-19

;

“In the middle of this pandemic, Udinese had managed to be a protected isle, thanks to the organization of the club and a strict imposition of protocols that allowed us to exclude contagion,”

director said.

“Then a player returned from international duty, tested positive and from there the contagion spread.

“Obviously, it’s not his fault, but that of a FIFA system that at this moment does not work and we are forced to pay for the consequences.

“When we have to delay wage payments so we can protect our players by funneling resources into the protocol and then get damaged by those who went on international duty, we have to make our protest heard.”
