Gimnasia pay tribute to Maradona by winning

The CGE mourned and admired their manager Maradona and made him proud through winning.

The Argentine club defeated

Velez Sarsfield

on Saturday, winning the first match after the death of their iconic head coach

The Argentine legend, widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time, passed away on Wednesday by a fatal heart attack.

Diego Maradona was buried on Thursday in Jardines de Bella Vista cemetery and many fans have lined up in the street grieving.

Gimnasia

were the first team the legend coached in Argentine. They went into battle with Velez Sarsfield on Saturday and came out proud and emotional.

After Maradona’s death, his coaching staff resigned and the assistant coach, Sebastian Mendez, has taken over since the legend was hospitalized.

Two weeks after his brain surgery, Maradona was discharged. The 60-year-old has attended Gimnasia’s game night last month on his birthday and was not in a good state.
