Garcia: Aouar’s punishment ‘was logical’

Sat 28 November 2020 | 7:19

Lyon banned Houssem Aouar to play against Reims on Sunday as a punishment for his actions.

After the game against Angers,

Lyon

midfielder

Houssem Aouar

refused to warm down with the rest of the substitutes.

He did not get any game time as Lyon were worried for him to get injured on a poor pitch. It seems that Aouar has used the same excuse to ignore the coach’s request to cool down after the match.

As a punishment, he will not be in the game against

Reims

on Sunday.

“I’m only going to say this once. It was logical to give him a sanction,” Lyon coach

Rudi Garcia

said.

“I suggested some myself. The club decided to remove Houssem from the squad for Sunday’s match. So we’ll play it with the squad at my disposal and of course, I respect the decision of the club. My opinion is that this kind of case should be resolved internally.”

His teammate Karl Toko Ekambi thinks Houssem just

‘made a small mistake’.

“Quite simply, he made a small mistake,” Toko Ekambi said.

“The club has made a decision, which we must respect. It’s not for us to comment on that. Houssem took it well. He trains well and that’s the main thing.”

Aouar has been liked with a move to Arsenal and it was supposed to happen in the summer, but they were not able to match the asking price.

Since then, he has had several small injuries, contracted COVID-19, and suffered from an adductor injury.

He has played seven times in the league for Lyon, scored a couple of goals, and provided an assist.
