Ex English international believes that Ozil has not been left out for football reasons.
Former Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere expressed surprise that Mesut Ozil was not included in the squad by Mikel Arteta, claiming that the German star could play in any Premier League team.
Ozil, who joined Arsenal from Real Madrid in 2013 for
42 million, has made 254 appearances for the club, scoring 44 goals and 77 assists. However, the former Germany international last played on March 7 in a 1-0 win over West Ham, and Mikel Arteta has since decided to remove him from the squad. Ozil expressed his dissatisfaction with the situation he was in, but claimed that he would fight in the last 8 months of his contract to return to the squad.
Wilshere believes that the reason for Ozil's removal was not about football terms, and stressed that he can still play at the highest levels of English football.
The former England star said:
"Yes, I am [surprised], because I played with him and I used
to love playing with him.
I really enjoyed it and he is one of the best I have played with, so, yes, I am surprised. But there is obviously something that we don't know because a player of his quality [should be playing].
"I reckon he could get into any team in the Premier League, that is my opinion, and to not even have the opportunity to compete for a place is difficult to understand.
"But there must be a reason, I don't know."
