Barcelona are willing to buy a new defender in January to replace the injured Gerard Pique.
Pique’s knee injury forced Barca to change his focus from Memphis Depay to Young defender Eric Garcia of Manchester City.
Gerard is sidelined due to a tough injury and will be away for months. Barcelona has confirmed his cruciate knee ligament injury in his right knee but the return date hasn’t been set yet.
The Catalan club was eager to bring in Memphis Depay to Camp Nou, but the injury to Pique has caused a change in strategy and now they are desperate to sign Eric Garcia in the January transfer window.
Barca have failed to bring in Garcia earlier this season because they couldn’t afford City’s price.
Money is still an important matter for Barcelona as they are working to reduce the players’ wages – and it’s likely that they have to sell before making a purchase.
Garcia’s contract with City expires next summer and he can join Barca on a free transfer, but Barcelona’s defensive line problems make them do the transfer as soon as possible.
If City don’t lower their valuation for Garcia then Barcelona will have to do anything to sign a defender matching their needs.
