Laporte: Man City ‘has increased its level under’ Guardiola

Sat 21 November 2020 | 11:43

Now with Pep Guardiola staying until the summer of 2023 with Manchester City, the squad are looking to win Premier League again.

On Thursday,

Manchester City

announced that

Pep Guardiola

has signed a new deal with the club and is staying until the summer of 2023. This announcement was met with great approval among the City squad.

With this new deal, he would now stay at the club for seven years. His previous longest spell was for four years when he was at

Barcelona

.

City defender

Aymeric Laporte

thinks that the club “has increased its level under his command” and believes with Guardiola staying at the club, they could win the Premier League again and also the Champions League.

"We are all very happy with the news,” Laporte said. “It makes us really happy to have him for two more years.

“We all have seen everything he has done in this club. He has won many trophies, he has a 73 percent winning rate. That is huge.

“Manchester City has increased its level under his command, so I'm very happy he is staying.

“Of course, winning trophies is always the goal with him. We want to win the Premier League again and the Champions League, hopefully, it can happen this season and the next two as well.”

Now that City is aiming for Premier League, they are going to have a difficult challenge against

Tottenham

today as City are 10th and their opponent second in the table and are five points behind them. Last season, Spurs won 2-0 in the corresponding match.

“Of course, we want that (to take the revenge from last season),” Laporte added. “Hopefully, we can win this time.

“We need it so we will fight until the end to beat them. I think they are very good players [Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, Gareth Bale], but we also have very good defenders as well.

“We will have to be very focused and hopefully we can keep a clean sheet.”
