Mon 16 November 2020 | 17:33

England coach Gareth Southgate has revealed that he had tested positive for Coronavirus.

Before the game against

Belgium

on Sunday, reports emerged about

England

manager

Gareth Southgate

contracting Coronavirus.

After England’s defeat 2-0 against Belgium and ending the hope of reaching the Nations League Finals by Group A2 leaders, Southgate confirmed the reports and stated that he contracted COVID-19 and has recovered since.

"I did have the virus," Southgate said. "I was fortunate it was not as serious as so many people in our country but not pleasant, not something you'd choose to have but everything is fine now.”

Since Sven-Goran Eriksson, under whom England lost 10 games of 67, the Three Lions have not been defeated as much. But now it was England’s 10th defeat in their 48 games under Southgate.

England needed at least a draw to keep their chance of topping the Group A2 table alive going into their final game with

Iceland

.

But with Belgium’s win and getting back on track, they just need one point in their final group game with

Denmark

to reach the Finals.
