Olivier Giroud has been warned by France coach Deschamps over his lack of playing time at Chelsea and he suggests that Giroud should seek a transfer in the new year.

Olivier Giroud

’s 103rd international appearance was for

France

in a friendly game against

Finland

last week. But he was not able to add to his 42 international goals and France was defeated 2-0.

As a result, in the game against

Portugal

for UEFA Nations League on Saturday, he was replaced by

Anthony Martial

and they ended up winning 1-0.

France head coach

Didier Deschamps

has also been warning Giroud over his lack of playing time at

Chelsea

.

After the game, Deschamps admitted that he prefers Martial over Giroud for the time being and it is only because he remains a regular at the club level.

It seems that Deschamps is suggesting the Giroud, who has only appeared in three Premier League matches for Chelsea this season, should seek a transfer in the new year to increase his chances of selection at the international level.

"I make the choices that seem best to me for the France team," he said.

"With Anthony, who is a good player, it allows us to have a little more depth. Compared to Olivier, he has to be impacted, first of all with the situation he has at his club, knowing that he has a large frame and that he needs rhythm, it’s hard.

"That’s not why I want to lose him, it’s complicated, we’ll talk, but obviously he has every interest in it not lasting, for him, to remain competitive, but we must not forget what he did with us and what he is still able to do.

"Anthony has a different profile but one that gives options. Anthony, today, is more fulfilled and in better physical and psychological conditions, obviously."

Now the home game against

Sweden

is going to be crucial for both Giroud and Martial, as it is when France are going to wrap up their League A, Group 3 campaign.
