Milwaukee Panthers Football has an interesting history because it was once discontinued but then restarted again. When this team was discontinued in 1974, it took the team more than two decades to return. In 2003, the Milwaukee Panthers Football made it back but not directly under the college. However, this team returned to the club status program.

Eleven years later, the team got the opportunity to join the National Club Football Association. Therefore, it is safe to say that this team is one of the most prominent amongst university teams. Although currently, it is not directly under the varsity program, its roots are deep-seated into the university football scene.

The team's records are 24-26 (.480) for the bowl and 928-326-53 (.730) for the all-time record. The team has become more popular after being sponsored by Nike for the gaming outfits. The Heisman winners in this team are 7 and 87 consensus all-Americans. One of their most highly-regarded traditions is their mascot Brutus Buckeye, their battle cry, and marching band.

4. Xavier Musketeers Football

The Xavier Musketeers Football team was founded early in the 1900s and because of their university name at that time, they were called the saints. They started making a name for themselves close to the 1940s and their reputation has intensified ever since. This team's home ground was the

Corcoran Stadium

which cost $300,000 to construct.

Although this team was discontinued in the late 1900s, their name is still great amongst the most prominent teams. The team was one of the glorious and competed in tournaments in Ohio and intercollegiate programs. They did not belong to any conferences so this team was independent. At first, the team started competing in both high school and college tournaments but then focused its efforts on intercollegiate championships.

5. Boston University Terriers Football

Boston University Terriers Football is another team that has been discontinued but yet remains prominent. Originally from Boston, Massachusetts, the Terriers played in the NCAA Division I-AA. Their conference is the Atlantic 10 and won 5 titles in their respective conference. The

This made the team winners of the Atlantic 10 for four consecutive years which signals the dominance the Terriers had. Their first season was in 1884 and they played up until the team was disbanded in 1997. The mascot of this team is still used by other sports teams at Boston University.
