Belgium and England will play in Mertens's hometown, and he expresses his feelings about this game.
Mertens is looking forward to playing against England in his hometown.
In the League of Nations, Belgium is at the top of the group table with two points more than England. And Mertens is happy that the competition is being held in his hometown.
“It’s nice to be at my home in Leuven,” he said, according to SportItalia journalist Alfredo Pedulla. “I’m sorry that there’s no audience.
“I could have filled the stadium by myself. I have bought a house 500 metres from the stadium too. In any case, it will be special for me, Leuven is and will always be my city.”
The Napoli striker, who has scored two goals in six Serie A games so far, is looking forward to the game against England.
“We can’t wait to play against England, we can win and it will be a good match between two great internationals,” he said. “I have heard too many negative things about the [2-1 win] against Switzerland, but I think it went well.
“It was an opportunity to give the kids who play less an opportunity to grow, we gave other opportunities to show off.”
But the 33-year-old striker believes he has a long way to go.
“I feel young and I can still give a lot.”
