Javier Saviola is one of the few players to have played for Barcelona and Real Madrid and was named as the youngest player on Pelé's FIFA 100 list of the 125 greatest living footballers in 2004. He was a top scorer at River plate as a teenager and joined Barcelona in 2001 when he was just 19 years old.

Although he is five years older than Messi, it seems that the first time he saw him at the club, he was very impressed.

It was in one of my first training sessions at the club, and Charly Rexach told me there was an Argentine kid who I needed to see

,” Saviola explained, “

That was Messi – I was completely in awe of him when I saw him play

.”

Saviola played briefly with Messi at the club and national team and finally left Barcelona in 2007 with 70 goals. Real Madrid signed Saviola after his Barcelona contract expired, on a three-year deal.

Saviola also has experience in wearing Sevilla and Malaga shirts. He has scored 210 goals in 585 club games and 11 goals in 39 national games. He eventually returned to his youth club, Riverplate, and retired in 2015
