Demetrio Albertini believes Milan can win Serie A just like Alberto Zaccheroni's Milan in 1999.
midfielder played 406 games with the Rossoneri during his playing profession winning 17 titles, including
five Serie A
three Champions Leagues
“When [Andrea] Pirlo and [Gennaro] Gattuso arrived I was one of the most experienced players,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
"I remember that once Rino left the sink covered with hair after having shaved, I picked them up and brought them to him.
“‘Are they yours?’, I asked. He said: ‘Sorry, I forgot them,’ and put them in his pocket."
Albertini trusts Stefano Pioli's side can conquer the Serie A title like
's Milan team did in 1999, regardless of not being among the top picks.
“Ibra has transformed the team and has enhanced the talent of many young players," Albertini said.
“This team is not similar to Zaccheroni’s side but the context is: on paper it is not the strongest team, but neither were we then and it is an anomalous season for everyone.
“Milan deserved to be on top of the table. I see a logic in their path, there is continuity with what they had begun to show since January, and with the quality and balance found after the first lockdown.
“[Sandro] Tonali joined a midfield with great balance,” Albertini added.
“You have to do something extraordinary to take [Ismael] Bennacer or [Franck] Kessie’s spots. Sandro must get over shyness, then he will take off.
“As for [Theo] Hernandez, I read of presumed decreases, I see a more diligent player, he has Italianized a little bit.
“Rafael Leao has great qualities and I am happy [Davide] Calabria was given an Italy call-up.”a
