Previous Real Madrid midfielder Fernando Gago has affirmed he is hanging up his boots at 34 years old, as announced by Goal.com.

The Argentinian made 121 appearances for

Los Blancos

in more than four-and-a-half seasons between January 2007 and the mid-year of 2011, giving 13 assists yet scoring only one goal – in a 4-3 loss against Sevilla.

Gago joined Real Madrid from

Boca Juniors

and was viewed as perhaps one of the best midfielders in South America – a skillful playmaker who sat before the back four and directed the positive momentum of his team.

Also, he displayed resemblance to former Real Madrid and Argentina star, Fernando Redondo in terms of positioning and their capacity to engage in attacks.

Subsequent to spending the 2011-12 season borrowed at Roma, Gago then spent the next year at Valencia – giving three assists in 16 games – prior to getting back to Boca Juniors following one more advance at Velez Sarsfield.
