Former Man Utd Star Says Martial Misled Fans
It seems that Paul Scholes has changed his opinion about Anthony Martial and says that he has misled fans over his skills of goalscoring.
Martial had a successful season in 2019-20 and scored 23 goals in 48 matches although he was injured at the beginning of the season.
The French attacker was named the best Manchester United’s player of the year as he helped the team achieve the third place in the Premier League and play in semi-finals of three competitions.
Scholes was convinced that Martial could play as a central forward in an interview with BT Sport in August.
He said, “He's turned himself into a number nine with every game I watch, more and more, so it's great to see. When he's square on to a player and runs at them, I think he's unstoppable.”
Nonetheless, since the start of this season, he has not assisted or scored a goal yet. So, the former Red Devil’s player thinks that he was misled by Martial’s previous performances.
Scholes told Stadium Astro that the main problem of Man Utd’s strikers is that they are not actual centre-forwards. He also said that Martial’s poor start shows that he is not a number nine and United need a world class centre-forward.
Since August, Martial not only has failed to score, but also he has not had a big chance which shows Man Utd’s weakness.
The Red Devils were beaten 6-1 by Tottenham at Old-Trafford in their third match in Premier League after losing to Crystal Palace at their first match and winning controversially at Brighton in matchday 2.
Martial was sent off in 28th minute of the match against Tottenham and he cannot play for United on Saturday.
