Paris Saint-Germain 0-1 Marseille: Five sent off including Neymar
PSG's weak start to their L1 season proceeded as they loss 1-0 against Marseille. In the stormy Classique five players involving Neymar were late sent off.
Thomas Tuchel, without 7 first-XI stars on Thursday's defeat to Lens, could take 4 of his players back into the fold this time, but Marseille who lost 4-0 last campaign in the corresponding match, took the points at Parc des Princes.
The 31st-minute volleyball of Florian Thauvin settled the game, resulting in insane scenes, as official Jerome Brisard used his red cards after a stoppage-time battle.
Neymar, who recently missed a great opportunity, had received marching orders for hitting Alvaro, who was clearly suspected of racist talk. Leandro Paredes was heavily opposed to a foul by compatriot Dario Benedetto, alongside Layvin Kurzawa and Jordan Amavi.
Steve Mandanda made a brilliant save from Verratti early on, and the atmosphere of the game was set when Neymar and Payet were booked for engaging in a fracas. Payet, however, had the last word in the fight, which led his team to a perfect free-kick that resulted in a goal with a volley by Thauvin volley.
Mandanda made excellent saves denying Pablo Sarabia and Neymar to score. Angel Di Maria has the chance to equalize the game as Gueye slipped in him, However, the offside flag cut their celebrations off.
On the other hand, Benedetto had an attempt ruled out for offside, yet Marseille kept firm to hand a horrific streak against their opponents. Neymar's miss out in the box summed up a disappointing night for Paris Saint-Germain.
Yet in stoppage time there was a major excitement, as Benedetto sparked Parades, with both getting their second yellow cards.
As the teams clashed on the pitch, Amavi and Kurzawa were both dismissed, with the referee to dismiss Neymar for a punch in a messy finale. With 2 goals and 2 assists, France winger Thauvin has now been involved with all 4 of Marseille's goals this season.
PSG will host Metz on Wednesday whereas Marseilles will be hosting Saint-Etienne for the first of five back to back home on Thursday, without Benedetto and Amavi.
