Thu 03 October 2019 | 11:27

Manchester United have traveled to the Netherlands to meet AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League while they are desperately in need of a confidence boost.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men made hard work of beating Astana 1-0 at Old Trafford on Europa League matchday one and now it’s time for their second match against 3rd in Eredivisie.

AZ Alkmaar finished fourth in the Eredivisie last season and have taken seven points from their opening three home fixtures this season.

The Cheeseheads managed a 2-2 draw in their opening group game at Partizan Belgrade despite playing for more than an hour with 10 men.

On the other side of the pitch there are Manchester United .This season they have drawn at Wolves and Southampton before losing 2-0 at West Ham with a poor performance.

The home side will be without Dani de Wit as the midfielder is still recovering from a broken nose. AZ will also be without key defender Jonas Svensson after he received a straight red card during the club's opening Europa League group game against Partizan Belgrade.

Solskjaer, on the other hand, will not have Paul Pogba as well as Anthony Martial, Luke Shaw, Eric Bailly and Phil Jones.

Teams’ background

Going back through the history, these are the facts worth mentioning:

The team have only won one of their previous six home games in the Europa League, conceding at least two goals in four of those.

On the other side Manchester United are unbeaten in their last five Europa League away games, with 3 wins and 2 draws, after losing five in a row prior to this run.
