?PSG vs. Galatasaray: match preview & lineups

Tue 01 October 2019 | 11:06

PSG have traveled to Istanbul to take on Galatasaray at Türk Telekom Arena today.

After their magnificent 3-0 win over Real Madrid on matchday one, PSG will be motivated to follow that up with another victory in Istanbul.

They have had a really good start of the season, as they are first in the Ligue with 15 points from 6 games.

Galatasaray have started to play better with 2 draws and 2 wins after the shocking loss in the first round against Denizlispor. They are trying to catch up with the leaders on top, as they already have 5 points less than first-placed Alanyaspor.

The club will be without Emre Akbaba as the midfielder recovers from a broken leg. This is while Younes Belhanda could make the home side's XI having recovered from a broken jaw.

As for PSG, Mbappe made his return against Bordeaux at the weekend but Cavani, Draxler, Dagba, and Kehrer are all still injured.

Neymar also has had his ban in the Champions League reduced but he will still miss out here.

Teams’ background

Checking the history books, we will see that this will be the fifth match between Galatasaray and Paris Saint Germain in European competition, with each side winning twice, once in the Cup Winners’ Cup and once in the Champions League.

Paris Saint Germain have lost both of their away Champions League matches against Turkish teams, losing 1-3 against Besiktas in October 1997 and 0-1 versus Galatasaray in December 2000.

Galatasaray have lost 50% of their 10 Champions League encounters with French teams, winning 3, drawing 2 and losing 5, although only one of those defeats came on home soil; 0-2 versus Monaco in March 1994.

Galatasaray have failed to find the net in five of their last six Champions League matches, as many as in their previous 17 games in the competition.

Paris Saint Germain have scored 58 goals in 19 Champions League group stage games since the start of the 2016-17 campaign; 13 more than any other side.

If Galatasaray avoid defeat against PSG, it’ll be the first time that they have remained unbeaten in the opening two games of a Champions League group stage since the format changed in 2003-04.
