With the Washington Redskins trailing against the Giants, they put their first-round pick Dwayne Haskins on and benched Case Keenum.

Dwayne Haskins came on for his NFL debut as the Washington Redskins benched quarterback Case Keenum against the New York Giants.

The Redskins elected to put their first-round pick of the 2019 draft in during the second quarter of Sunday's game, as they trailed 14-0 in New York.

Keenum completed 6 of 11 passes for 37 yards, no touchdowns and one interception before he was benched. Haskins was selected number 15 overall in April.

It appeared to be a safe move for Washington after starting quarterback Alex Smith was sidelined indefinitely with a leg injury last November.

Backup Colt McCoy went down with a broken leg shortly after Smith's injury, leaving Mark Sanchez as their only quarterback.

The team acquired Keenum, who started in the Redskins' first four games, in a trade with the Denver Broncos during the offseason.
