Gomez affirmed that he does not plan to remove the Ecuador Captain.

Antonio Valencia, the 33-year-old Ecuador Captain, has been asked to join the national team for Copa America Squad by coach Hernan Dario Gomez.

"There are players who haven't played much but they are players that you know will be important when they're in the national team," Gomez stated despite negative assessments on his decision since Valencia was not a key factor in Manchester United squad recently, having had a season full of unfortunate injuries.

"I'm not going to throw out Valencia until he tells me he's quitting."

Ecuador first match will be against Uruguay, on June 16 in Belo Horzonte.

They have never won the Copa America, alongside Venezuela. Their best finishes were in 1959 and 1993, both times as hosts when they came fourth.
