Luuk de Jong early life

In this part of our article on Luuk de Jong biography, we will review some facts about

Luuk de Jong childhood

and some family facts, from his early days to the time he became famous. Football fans know about Luuk de Jong's abilities, but few consider his bio, which is quite interesting.

Luuk de Jong was born in the Swiss town of Aigle. Aigle is a historic Swiss town where the total number of industrial buildings is nearly equal to the number of residential ones.

Nonetheless, the town has enough resources to satisfy its citizens's athletic tastes, notably those of the couples to whom Luuk was born. Luuk had the loving companionship of his older brother Siem as he grew up in the alpine village of Aigle.

The brothers, who could be mistaken for twins, preferred football to volleyball, their parents's favored career sport. After the family relocated to Holland, it was only a matter of time before both boys began their road to becoming professionals.

Luuk de Jong profile

When Luuk's family moved to Holland, he was just four years old. He was immediately registered in a local club, DZC '68, with his brother, where they spent months before beginning their youth career at De Graafschap in 2001.

Luuk spent 8 years in De Graafschap's junior program before being promoted to the first squad, where he made his professional debut against

Nac Breda

in an Eredivisie match in 2008.

Stay tuned now in this section of

Luuk de Jong biography

because we want to share some information about his playing style.

Style of play

Luuk does not rush his shot and does not become agitated when confronted with a challenge. He stands very steadily and waits for his chance. Luuk de Jong is a right-footed player who also scores with his left-footed. He has no one-footedness; thus, he doesn't have to modify his body or sprint to compensate.

Despite this, he possesses good top-end speed and is speedy out of the blocks. On the ground, in the air, or right over the top, he'll take a ball in. As a player, he has certain issues. He does not agree with all of a striker's responsibilities. De Jong was described as an "English-style striker" by Steve McLaren, his former coach in Twente.

Reception

Luuk had an excellent start to his professional career in De Graafschap's Eredivisie, scoring two goals in 14 games and assisting on multiple occasions throughout his debut season.

Luuk's outstanding performances in his rookie season earned him a transfer to

FC Twente

in 2009. Luuk's career with FC Twente took a turn for the better when he scored twice in a cup match against

Capelle

.

In successive tournaments, such as the Europa, Eredivisie, and Champions League, he improved and maintained his best form, scoring against big teams like Benfica, Ajax, Utrecht, FC Groningen, and Schalke 04 to win trophies for his club. As a result, by the time he left FC Twente, Luuk had scored 39 goals in 79 games.

Goal celebration

As a Striker, Luuk de Jong has scored about 210 goals so far during his career, and although he doesn't have a trademark goal celebration, we have seen him celebrate his goals very differently. One point to remember about the goals celebrations of Luuk de Jong is that, along with his teammates, he always likes to celebrate his goals.

Luuk de Jong outside football

Luuk, on the other hand, takes time to unwind after games by hanging out with friends. He also enjoys sightseeing and is known to visit natural bodies when he needs to be alone with nature. Apart from soccer, Luuk enjoys American Football and follows the NFL Super Bowl.

Luuk enjoys mentally engaging hobbies such as playing video games when he is not out with friends or sightseeing. Luuk enjoys video games and has a large collection of gaming equipment, including a PS4 console on its whole. PlayStation gave the Dutch international, who has been gaming since the days of Super Mario (a game he still plays), a Golden Joystick.

Luuk de Jong personal life

Now we want to read about Luuk de Jong life story. are you ready?

Even though Luuk has yet to launch his fashion line, he never fails to express his gratitude for a well-organized dressing room stocked with attractive items. Luuk loves and promotes Addidas items on a corporate level, and the design firm rewards him with presents for his patronage.

Family, children, and relationships

Luuk has only had two girlfriends in his life. The first was his romance with Maxime Dassen, a celebrity girlfriend. When Luuk was at Bundesliga club Borrusia Monchengladbach, the two began dating. Their romance, however, lasted only 18 months when they split up for personal reasons. Luuk then began dating Lizanne Van Zutven, his current girlfriend. The lovebirds met as friends in 2015, but it wasn't until months later (in April 2016) that they became romantically involved. They had children in March 2021. A boy named Cody.

Luuk was born into a four-member sports-obsessed household. George de Jong, Luuk's father, was born in 1953. Former Dutch volleyball international and proud father of two sons, he played with Lycurgus before moving to Switzerland in 1982. Loekie Ratering, Luuk's mother, was also a professional volleyball player who made 90 appearances for the Dutch national team. By being a supportive mother to her sons and a decent wife to her husband, she was the glue that held the family together.

Siem, Luuk's younger brother, is a year and a half older than Luuk. Siem, who played for the same junior team as Luuk (De Graafschap), made his professional debut with

Ajax

in 2005 and may be considered a successful footballer as well. When brothers who play for different clubs meet as opponents on the field of play, they never miss an occasion to interact.

Philanthropy

Humanitarian service is a very rewarding task in which the bulk of footballers work, but the public does not notice this humanitarian work either.

Luuk de Jong hasn't done or said anything in the media yet, and we have to wait and see if he's going to do any humanitarian service.

Legal issues

While some footballers at various levels have certainly had legal problems, Luuk de Jong has never had a legal dispute in his lifetime.

De Graafschap

De Jong made his Eredivisie debut as a substitute in a match against Breda. De Jong was promoted to the starting lineup after another appearance off the bench against Heerenveen. De Jong assisted Ben Sahar in De Graafschap's 9–0 triumph over Willem II in their debut match together. In a home encounter against Twente, he scored his first Eredivisie goal. De Jong produced a handball moments later, giving Twente a penalty, which Blaise N'Kufo converted; the game ended 2–2.

His second goal came against Heracles Almelo at home. Rogier Meijer headed on a free kick taken by Resit Schuurman. De Jong scored an overhead kick while standing with his back to goal, giving De Graafschap a 1–0 win. He injured his ankle in a home game against

Nijmegen

and was replaced in the first half. De Jong returned from injury in the promotion/relegation play-offs.

Twente

Twente declared on April 6, 2009, that de Jong has signed a three-year contract with an option for another year. On July 1, 2009, his contract would begin. He made his Twente debut in a cup match against Joure, coming on as a second-half substitute to replace Dario Vujicevic. In the 8–0 triumph over Joure, he had two assists. In the cup encounter against Capelle, he scored his first two goals for Twente.

De Jong was given the starting spot against

Werder Bremen

in the Europa League knockout stage (round of 32) due to the injury of Blaise N'Kufo. In Twente's away game against Werder Bremen, he scored his first Europa League goal. Twente was already behind 0–3 when de Jong scored a goal past Christian Vander's goalkeeper to make it 1–3.

De Jong scored his first league goal for Twente against Nijmegen on February 28, 2010. This game was won by Twente with a score of 2–1. On 10 April, he scored his second league goal in injury time in a home game against Heerenveen, which ended 2–0. De Jong was in the Champions League play-off game against

Benfica

on August 16, which ended in a 2–2 home tie.

In a 5–1 thrashing of Heerenveen four days later, he scored his first Eredivisie goal of the season. De Jong scored two more goals in Twente's 4–1 win over VVV Venlo the following week, on his 21st birthday. De Jong scored in Twente's 6–2 thumping of fellow title contenders PSV Eindhoven at the Philips Stadion on March 4th. Four days later, in a Europa League encounter against

Schalke 04

, de Jong was the subject of a contentious penalty decision that resulted in the red card of Schalke defender Joel Matip, as well as a penalty kick that he successfully converted to give his team a 1–0 win. Twente, on the other hand, was eliminated from the competition after losing 1–4 in Germany in the second leg, with de Jong's fellow Dutchman Klaas-Jan Huntelaar scoring a hat-trick.

He finished the season in joint second position with 25 goals, seven behind top scorer Bas Dost. De Jong confirmed his intention to quit the club at the end of the 2011–12 season. De Jong accused

Newcastle United

's chairman [Joop Munsterman] of inflating the asking price for him after attracting the interest of various clubs around Europe, notably Premier League side Newcastle United. The club's chairman, Steve McClaren, expressed his displeasure with de Jong's remarks.

Borussia Monchengladbach

De Jong signed a five-year contract with Bundesliga club Borussia Monchengladbach on July 18, 2012, for a cost of €15 million (£12.6 million), after stating that it was his goal to play for the club. De Jong remarked eight months after the move that the Bundesliga was a "wonderful location to develop as a player."

He made his debut for Monchengladbach in a match against Munich 1860, in which his team won 4–2. However, de Jong was mostly unnoticed in his maiden encounter, scoring or assisting on no goals. He made his debut appearance in a European game for Monchengladbach on August 21, scoring an own goal from a free kick in a 3–1 loss to Dynamo Kyiv in the Champions League Qualifiers. In a 2–3 defeat against 1. Nurnberg on September 15, scored his first goal for the club, converting a tap-in after a cross from Patrick Herrmann.

De Jong's first-team opportunities diminished later in the season after a falling out with manager Lucien Favre, and he only made twenty-three appearances, scoring six times. De Jong started near the end of the season that he felt confident in his ability to prove himself as the finest striker in the league. De Jong's first-team spot remained limited in the 2013–14 season, as his playing minutes reduced drastically and he only made fourteen appearances in the first half of the season.

Newcastle United (loan)

De Jong signed a loan deal with Premier League club Newcastle United until the conclusion of the 2013–14 season on January 29, 2014. On February 1, he made his Tyne-Wear derby debut against

PSV Eindhoven

at €5.5 million on July 12, 2014. De Jong stated after his move to PSV that he believed he had made a mistake by moving to Germany.

Vitesse Arnhem

.

He also scored twice in the team's 4–1 win over Heerenveen on April 18, their 22nd Eredivisie title and first since 2008. De Jong scored a hat trick on August 2, 2015, to help PSV win the 2015 Johan Cruyff Shield.

Sevilla

De Jong signed a four-year contract with Spanish club Sevilla on July 1, 2019. De Jong scored the game-winning goal in a 2–1 win over

Manchester United

in the UEFA Europa League semi-finals on August 16, 2020. He was voted man of the match after scoring twice in a 3–2 triumph over Inter Milan in the final on August 21. He was named to the Squad of the Season as a result of his performance in the Europa League. He scored the only goal in a 1–0 win over Rennes in the 2020–21 UEFA Champions League group stage on October 28, 2020.

Barcelona (loan)
