Euro 2020 – Day 26 Review

From Paul Pogba meeting an all-time legend in the United States, to Luke Shaw being praised by one of the greatest left-backs of all time and Christian Eriksen receiving an invitation from UEFA to attend the Euro 2020 final, there is much to cover from the things that happened yesterday. Here is everything you should know.

The idol of a whole generation

While many players have returned to the training camps for preseason, Paul Pogba has been enjoying some well-earned vacation time and he has been using his time partying out with the likes of Burna Boy and his former

teammates Paulo Dybala and Blaise Matuidi.

But the person that caught the attention of the world and got Pogba so excited was the legendary Brazilian playmaker Ronaldinho, who spent some time partying with Pogba and his mates at a nightclub in Miami, Florida. The

international shared a picture and a video of him hugging the former Barcelona man and clearly being excited to meet one of his idols.

While it was the first time the two met in person, Ronaldinho had previous heaped praise on Pogba and his immense talent and potential back in 2018 as he claimed: “He (Pogba) can win the Ballon d’Or, without a doubt. I see Pogba as a friend, I don’t see myself as his idol.” The Brazilian legend continued: “He is young, talented and he has the ability to play anywhere. He can play in a free role, defensive, as a runner or attacking. He has the characteristics of a player who can fill any position. He can make history.”

Class recognizing Class

When one of, if not the, greatest left-backs in the world praises you for your performance and sees a bright future ahead of you, then you are on the right path. That’s exactly where Luke Shaw is believed to be on as former

Real Madrid

and Brazil left-back Roberto Carlos heaped praise on the Englishman by claiming:

“You can see he’s very motivated, his performance against Ukraine was very good. He’s been improving each game. I think he’s got everything to get to the top. He’s the left-back for England – that in itself says a lot.”

Shaw and his teammates will meet Denmark in the Euro 2020 semifinal, where it will decided who is going to meet Italy in the final itself. The talented left-back has been the talk of the town lately with his phenomenal performances both at the back and on the wings. He even got his former manager Jose Mourinho to admit that he is in fact one of the best around who can turn himself into one of the best left-backs ever.

Give me a lift, will you?

Lorenzo Insigne

has been the butt of many height jokes throughout the years and the trend is still continuing strong, even inside the Italian national team. Of course it seems that Insigne himself is enjoying the jokes and even started one himself during their warm-up session yesterday. While everyone in the squad was slapping Donnarumma during the training session prior to their clash against Spain, Insigne asked Ciro Immobile to give him a boost so that he can reach the 1.96 meter tall goalkeeper’s head and slap him.

Donnarumma was the man of the hour as he got to save Alvaro Morata’s botched penalty in the penalty shootouts and single-handedly win the intense match against Spain. Insigne has also been quite a vital part of Mancini’s plans as his brilliant performances have helped Italy reach the Euro 2020 final.

An invitation

In a beautiful gesture by UEFA,

Christian Eriksen

and the medics who saved him from certain death on the pitch during Denmark’s match against Finland, have been invited to the Euro 2020 final. Eriksen suffered a sudden cardiac arrest during his nation’s very first match in the group stages of the tournament and had to be given CPR for several minutes before finally being revived by the medics, who then took him to hospital where he was given a heart starter.

Despite Eriksen’s unlucky accident, Denmark have bounced back from their defeat against Finland and have reached the semifinals, where they will meet

tonight. Thankfully, Eriksen has been discharged from hospital and can support his national team from home, which will certainly boost his teammates’ morale, with them knowing that their mate is alright.

be able to make history by going through to the final after dealing a shock blow to England? Or will England stay true to their “It’s coming home” words and reach the final instead? We will have to wait and see how things pan out this evening.
