Analyzing the favorites: Who will win the UEFA Euro 2021 title?

A look at the chances of the top teams in this year's European Championships to see who will win the Euro title in 2021 and which teams will qualify for the semi-finals.

Euro 2021

qualifiers started in March 2019 and ended in November 2020. The tournament itself was post ponded a year due to the Covid-19 Pandemic which started shortly before the end of the play-offs.

It was not the only difference between this year's event to its previous ones, as the qualification road was linked with the 2018–19 UEFA Nations League, giving countries a secondary route to qualify for the final tournament. For the first time since 1976, no team automatically qualified for the UEFA European Championship as the host country.

There were no surprises in the qualifying rounds and all the big teams made it to the finals. The biggest absentee is probably Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, the Republic of Ireland, and Norway who were all eliminated in the play-off.

France, Portugal, England, and Belgium are considered the main favorites. The likes of Germany, Spain, and the Netherlands can certainly dream of winning the title, but their recent forms do not support their cause. And like many other editions of this exciting tournament, there will be room for a couple of dark horses. Teams like Russia, Turkey, Wales, and Denmark will fancy their chances to upset the heavy forces and reach the latter stages.

Many star players are in the form of their lives and will have a chance to further make history. Kevin De Bruyne, Harry Kane, Romelu Lukaku, Kai Havertz, N'Golo Kante, and

Robert Lewandowsky

are some of the biggest players fans are excited about. Now let's get to the point of the article and see who is going to win Euro 2021.

A Chance to make history: who will win the European Championships title in 2021?

In the following article, we will look into the current form of the top teams of the European Championships title in 2021 to try to see

who is going to win the Euro 2021

?

Spain

Spain

is the first team we analyze in our article on

who will win the Euro 2021

. The Matadors won two back-to-back titles in 2008 and 2012, but they have not been able to reach the same heights since then. They were disastrous in the 2014 and the 2018 World Cups and were eliminated against Italy in the round of 16 of Euro 2016. Still, they have been in a good form under the guidance of their charismatic coach, Luis Enrique, and are on the bright side of their transitional period. They are still among the strong favorites to win the title this year.

Spain is drawn in Group E alongside Poland, Slovakia, and Sweden. On the paper, they should not have much problem advancing, but it is one of those groups which can turn very tricky as all the other teams are capable of making life hard for their opponents.

Road to Euro 2021

Spain topped their group with 26 points from 10 games, and ahead of Sweden, Norway and Romania. With 31 goals, they had the fourth-best scoring record behind Belgium (40), England (37), and Italy (37) and the joint-third best defensive record (alongside Poland with 5 goals conceded) behind Belgium (3) and Italy (4).

Star players

Ferran Torres

is one of the brightest talents of this Spain squad. The youngster enjoyed a very successful season at Manchester City and was magical with a hat-trick in the 6-1 demolition of Germany in a friendly back in 2020. The 18-years old midfield sensation, Pedri Gonzalez also had an amazing season in which he played over 50 games for Barcelona.

Strengths

Unlike the last two decades, Spain does not rely on any superstars this time. The real strength of Luis Enrique's players is their collective harmony. Their recent golden generation is gone, but they can rely on some of the most promising young talents in Europe.

Weaknesses

Lack of experience can cost Spain greatly in this tournament as many of their players are experiencing their first-ever European Championships.

Chances for the title

Spain is certainly considered a favorite when it comes to guessing who will win the Euro 2021, but we don’t think they can reach the Semi-final.

Germany

The second team on our list of who will win Euro 2021,

Germany

is experiencing the same scenario of Spain in that they have lost the magic they enjoyed in the past decades but is hopeful they can turn things around with their new youngsters.

Germany reached 2008 final and won the 2014 World Cup, but they were shamefully eliminated in the group stage of the 2018 World Cup. In the 2016 edition of the European Championships Germany reached the semi-final, before getting eliminated against the hosts, France in the semi-finals.

Joachim Low's players are drawn against Hungary, Portugal, and France in the group death. They seem to have less chance than their two direct rivals, but history has shown that they are capable of great things.

Road to Euro 2021

Germany was the winner of its group with 21 points from 8 games and ahead of the Netherlands and Northern Ireland. They scored 30 goals and conceded 7. Their only defeat was by four goals to two against the Netherlands, while their best result was a 6-1 win against Northern Ireland.

Star players

Chelsea's forward due, Timo Werner and Kai Havertz are fresh from winning the UEFA Champions League, while Bayern Munich star midfielders, Leroy Sane, Joshua Kimmich, and Serge Gnabry have also had a very good season. Thomas Muller is also back in the team and

Manuel Neuer

has refined his best for and is aiming for one last shot at glory in his amazing international career.

Strengths

The fact that the core of the team comes from Hansi Flick's mesmerizing Bayern Munich side is enough good reason to believe that they can make amends for their embarrassing recent failures at the international level and do great things this term.

Weaknesses

Joachim Low might be the manager who won Germany their fourth ever World Cup title, but it belongs to the past and the veteran coach has shown no sign of improving himself in recent years. He will have a hard time right from the start of the tournament and would be lucky if his team wins the title in his last days at the helm.

Chances for the title

Germany can never be written off when guessing who is going to win Euro 2021, but we think it will be highly unlikely. They can qualify as one of the best third-placed teams of the group stage, but we simply don't fancy them in the semis.

Netherlands

The

Netherlands

could be one of the strong favorites if the tournament was not canceled last year, but many things have changed for the Oranges since then.

Under Ronald Koeman, Netherlands once again became a force to reckon with in Europe, but then the Dutchman chose to leave the national team to manage his dream club, Barcelona. His successor, Ronald de Boer has done little to justify his selection and they have also lost some of their best players due to injury, Virgil Van Dijk, Jasper Cillessen, and Donny Van de Beek being the most notable of them.

Netherlands are drawn in Group C alongside Austria, Macedonia, and Ukraine. They seem to have the easiest task among the favorites and it would be a big surprise if they don’t make it to the knock-out stages.

Road to Euro 2021

The Netherlands finished second in their group with 19 points from 8 games, two points behind Germany. They defeated the Germans 4-2 in the first game, before getting beaten 3-2 in the return match. They scored 24 goals and conceded 7.

Star players

Memphis Depay

has had the best season of his career and is joining Barcelona after a very impressive season with Lyon. The team's captain Georginio Wijnaldum has also been on good form and Frenkie de Jong is among the best of the world in his position.

Strengths

The Netherlands have always shown they can always produce some of the best talents of the football world and their current squad is no exception. They have one of the youngest squads among the favorites and it has worked more recently for them than against them.

Weaknesses

Netherland's new coach, Ronald de Boer has not been able to continue his processor's work and since his appointment, the Dutch have been a shadow of what they were under Ronald Koeman.

Chances for the title

The Netherlands has enough quality to challenge for the title, but more than three decades have gone by since they won the competition in 1988. They will easily qualify from their group but will find it hard to go further than the last 8.

Italy

The 2012 runners-up,

Italy

is another team we analyze in our article on

who will win the Euro 2021 title

. The Nerazzurri is enjoying one of its best periods in recent years and has become a solid team with amazing collective spirit under Roberto Mancini.

Italy is drawn in group A alongside Wales, Turkey, and Switzerland. It seems like a relatively easy path for them past the group stage, but they will surely have to sweat for it as all their three opponents are well capable of beating them. They did well in Euro 2016 and reached the last 8 before they were beaten on penalties against Germany.

Road to Euro 2021

Italy topped their group ahead of Finland, Greece, and Bosnia with a maximum of 30 points. Belgium was the only other side with a perfect record. Italy did amazing both defensively and offensively. They scored 37 goals (the second-best behind Belgium with 40) and conceded only 4 goals (again, behind Belgium who conceded 3). Their best result was a 9-1 win against Armenia.

Star players

The evergreen Lazio striker,

Ciro Immobile

won the Golden Shoe award in 2020 and is hoping to continue his fine form in what would probably be his last chance for glory on the international stage. Italy can also count on some of the hottest prospects in Europe like Nicolo Barella. Lorenzo Insigne is also in a good form and can be key in Italy's quest for their first major title since they won the 2006 World Cup.

Strengths

Italy is one of the most balanced teams in the competition as they have been brilliant at defense and attack.

Weaknesses

Italy is also one of the traditional powerhouses of Europe that is undergoing a transitional period and it can turn against them in the decisive moments of the tournament.

Chances for the title

Italy is currently one of the best teams in the world, but they don’t seem to have the quality to match the likes of Portugal, Belgium, and France. We think they will make it to the last 8, but not to the semis.

Belgium

Belgium

is experiencing one of the best spells of its history. Roberto Martinez's players reached the semi-final of the 2018 World Cup and eventually won the bronze medal. Not much has changed for them since then, except maybe the age of their squad and the form of some of their key players like Eden Hazard.

Belgium will play against Denmark, Finland, and Russia in group B. In 2016 they reached the last 8 stages of the Euro, but were shockingly eliminated after suffering a 3-1 defeat against Wales. They are confident they can go further this time and can even dream of winning the title.

Road to Euro 2021

Belgium was the best team of the qualifying rounds. They won all of their 10 games, scored the most goals (40), and conceded the least (3).

Star players

Alongside France and Portugal, Belgium has the most star-studded squad. Kevin de Bruyne is still at the peak of his game, although the season ended with heartbreak for him after Manchester City lost the UCL final to Chelsea and de Bruyne suffered a heavy injury. He is back in the squad and will be his team's key player.

Romelu Lukaku

is another player Belgium can count on, as the giant striker won the Serie A with Inter Milan. It is quite the contrary for Eden Hazard who has had a nightmarish first two seasons at Real Madrid. However, He will be keen to shine and put the bad spell behind him.

Strengths

This group of Belgium players has worked together for quite a long time. They have reached good stability and Roberto Martinez has shown he can get the best out of his players.

Weaknesses

Despite the immense quality of their squad, Belgium is among the underachievers in Europe. Many believe they have not reached their full potential and it is one of the last chances for Belgium's golden generation to win something big at the International stage.

Chances for the title

As much as Belgium fans would like to dream of a first-ever European Championships title, we don't believe they have what it takes to win the title. They will be able to reach the semi-final, but winning the trophy is going to be harder, given the fact that France and Portugal are in better shape

England

Much like Belgium,

England

have some of the best players of Europe in their squad, but they will have to upgrade their mentality if they want to win their first major trophy since 1966. Under the guidance of Gareth Southgate, England reached the semi-final of the 2018 World Cup, but they eventually ended in fourth place after losing against Croatia and Belgium. Their performances at the 2016 Euro were another story as they were eliminated against Iceland in the last 16.

The Three Lion's will lock horns against Croatia, the Czech Republic, and Scotland in group D. It is a very tricky group and anything is possible for the four teams. However, England will be hopeful of a strong start to the tournament and topping their group.

Road to Euro 2021

England won their group easily with 7 wins in 8 games, the most impressive of them was the 5-0 thrashing of the Czech Republic. They lost once and it was also against the Czechs. With 37 goals scored, they had the second-best stats in the qualifiers.

Star players

Tottenham's amazing striker,

Harry Kane

will undoubtedly be their key player after finishing last season's Premier League as the Top Scorer and Top Assist Provider. Jack Grealish can also play an important part in this tournament.

Strengths

Many of England's stars are in a good form and they have been playing together, and under Gareth Southgate for quite some time now. They have immense quality in their squad and many of their players are capable of deciding matches.

Weaknesses

Their lack of success in recent tournaments can come back to haunt them and they need to believe in themselves 100 percent to break the curse and win the title.

Chances for the title

Like Belgium, England has what it takes to reach the semi-final, but we don’t think they are mature enough to win the title.

Portugal

This is probably the best squad

Portugal

has had in their history. Cristiano Ronaldo and cos won the last edition of the European Championship in 2016 by beating the hosts, France in the final. Their 2018 World Cup campaign was a disaster though as they were eliminated in the last 16. They still manage to win the first-ever Europa Nations League and are dreaming of a third major trophy in 5 years.

Portugal is drawn in a very tough group consisting of France, Germany, and Hungary. They will have to at their best to qualify from the group stage, but if they do, they have whatever they need to defend their title.

Road to Euro 2021

Portugal is the only team among the favorites who finished second in their group at the qualifiers. They gathered 17 points from 8 games, three points behind group winners, Ukraine. Their best result was a 6-0 win against Lithuania, while they suffered one defeat against Ukraine. They scored 22 goals and conceded 6 and had the worst stats among the teams in our article on who will win the UEFA Euro 2021.

Star players

Cristiano Ronaldo

has shown no sign of slowing down after winning the Serie A top scorer award, at the age of 37. While Bruno Fernandez has proven himself as one of the best midfielders in the world after his impressive performances for Manchester United. In defense, they have Ruben Dias who has been a monster for Manchester City this year and was rewarded for his unbelievable form by winning Premier League's best player award. Diogo Jota has also had a good season with Liverpool and is keen to show his talent in the biggest stage of European international football.

Strengths

Portugal has some of the best superstars of the football world in their squad and their collective spirit is high after winning two major titles since 2016. They have at least one world-class star in every line and it will be a big surprise if they don’t make it to the last stages of the tournament.

Weaknesses

It is hard to find any weaknesses in this Portugal team, but, maybe too much reliance on Ronaldo and Fernandez can cost them, especially if they suffer any injuries in the tournament.

Chances for the title

Portugal is widely considered as one of the biggest title challengers this year and they can surely have the quality to become the second team since Spain (2008-2012) to win back-to-back Euro titles. However, they are slightly behind France and we think they will eventually finish as the runners-ups.

France

The last team in our article on

who is going to win the Euro 2021

is Didier Deschamps amazing

France

side which dominantly won the 2018 World Cup. They were agonizingly close to winning the Euro 2016 on their home soil, but failed in the final and handed down the title to Portugal.

France will have to battle two other favorites, Portugal and Germany on the group stage and anything could go wrong for them right from the start. Still, Fans and critics worldwide believe that they are currently the best team in the world and anything but winning the title would be a failure for them.

Road to Euro 2021

France topped their group ahead of Turkey and Iceland with 25 points from 10 games. Their only defeat was a 2-0 loss against Turkey, while their best win was the 4-0 thrashing of Iceland. They scored 26 goals and conceded 6.

Star players

France has so many star players in their squad that it selecting one of them as the key player seems impossible. However, N'Golo Kante has had the best season of his career after winning the Champions League with Chelsea, and winning the Euros would pave the way for him to win the prestigious Ballon d'Or award at the end of the year.

Karim Benzema

is also back after many years of absence from the national team and all eyes will be on him to once again prove his class and quality. Paul Pogba is still the main creative force in the midfield line and upfront, they have one of the scariest trios in Antoine Griezmann, Kylian Mbappe, and Karim Benzema.

Strengths

France have the most complete and balanced squad in the competition. It seems they don’t have any flaws. Their forward line is unbelievably lethal. They won the World Cup without their striker talisman, Karim Benzema and now they have him back in the team.

Weaknesses

It is really hard to find any weaknesses in this French side, however, the pressure of being the strongest favorites can become a burden for them.

Chances for the title

Considering their consistent form in the past few years France seems to have the best chance when it comes to deciding who will win the Euro 2021 title in 2021.

So here it was! Our article on who

will win the La Euro title in 2021
