. As we proceed deep into the second half of the season, some of the events we’ve witnessed have been nothing short of incredible. And in this relatively short piece, we’d like to highlight three of the most surprising events that have taken place this season.
In below you can find the most surprising and eye catching events in the premiere league
Come on - we had to open with this one! Just a few weeks back we witnessed a record-equalling game where Manchester United put 9 goals past Southampton. This was clearly an absolute drumming, largely helped by the fact that Southampton managed to get a man sent off in just the second minute. Things only got worse when they managed to get another man sent off later in the game. The 11-man strong United simply tormented9-man Southampton
in this one, with players like Bruno Fernandes having an absolute field day.
Perhaps even worse for Southampton, this isn’t the first time they’ve lost by a 9 goal margin. They also suffered such a defeat at the hands of Leicester City last season, showing that sometimes, lightning does strike twice. For anyone who isn’t a Southampton fan, this game was just awesome to watch, and it was definitely a moment that none of us expected!
When Lampard took the job at Chelsea, it seemed a forgone conclusion that he would just be adored by the fans. Of course, he has previously been a Chelsea legend, scoring many goals for them during his time and helping the team to win multiple trophies. But it would seem that these achievements are destined to remain as history for Lampard, as he was given the boot just a few weeks ago following a string of poor performances and unrest with several of the players. It’s not that this was entirely out of the blue, but we didn’t really expect this to happen given his reputation and history at the club.
Mind you, it just proves that it doesn’t matter how much you’ve contributed in the past in the Premier League - it can still be as cut-throat to absolutely anyone. It’s not like Lampard is alone in his struggles however, as we’ve also seen teams like Liverpool and Tottenhamsliding down the table
of late. So, who knows, maybe Lampard will be in good company soon enough?
While it’s not unheard of for soccer games to have large winning margins, it’s pretty rare that you see an upset as big as this one. As you may remember, Villa was just a few points from being relegated during the 2019/2020 season. As you may also remember, Liverpool won the title by a decent margin. Therefore, when the title holders go up against a team that narrowly escaped relegation, you wouldn’t be surprised if you saw this result in reverse! But the fact that Villa not only managed to win, but absolutely dismantle the Champions was something that nobody saw coming.
The misery would get worse for Liverpool when people started to look through the history books too. The last time Liverpool actually had 7 goals put past them was back in 1963. Needless to say, this was one of the biggest surprises of the year thus far.
