Riyad Mahrez Style of play

A left-footed player, Mahrez usually plays as a right-winger, a position which allows him to cut inside and shoot on goal with his stronger foot, or make deliveries into the penalty area; however, he is a versatile player, who is capable of playing anywhere across the front line, both in the centre, or on either flank.

His key characteristics are his trickery, balance, turn of pace, flair, and dribbling ability as a fast, imaginative, and technically talented player.Although he is capable of scoring goals, he is also an exceptional supplier of assistance, because of his capacity to build opportunities for his teammates. Despite his ability, however, his record from the penalty spot has been inconsistent over his career

when Mahrez was first spotted by Quimper's youth manager Ronan Salaün and his assistant Mickaël Pellen, they commented that he was skilled, a strong set-piece taker, and with both feet he had outstanding technique and dribbling ability.

"After watching Mahrez play, Steve Walsh, former recruitment head of Leicester, noted that: "Riyad was a little raw, but he had a fantastic touch. He could kill the ball dead and go past people. I liked his positivity. Some of his decision-making was not that great and he wasn't the best offensively, but you could see that he had genuine potential.

Mahrez credited Claudio Ranieri, his former Leicester manager, for helping him develop the tactical aspect of his game. Mahrez was also able to strengthen his defensive abilities and work-rate, as well as his decision-making, during his tenure at Manchester City under manager Pep Guardiola.
