, but until the end of the season, he continued playing for Chmel Blsany. Cech Mate broke Theodor Reimann's clean sheet record in the Czech professional league in November 2001 but, his record ended by conceding a goal from Marcel Melecky on 17 November 2001 after 903 minutes without conceding goals.

In 2002 Cech signed a four-year contract with

Rennes

, for €5.5 million. Obviously, Rennes was not a big team in

France

, but it was brilliant for Cech as an experience in a foreign league.

After two years, Cech mate moved to Chelsea for £7 million, becoming the clubs' most expensive goalkeeper at that time. When he joined Chelsea, Carlo Cudicini suffered an injury that led Jose Mourinho to choose Cech as a first goalkeeper. "I am honoured to have been the manager that, at such an early age, gave Petr a top Premier League [starting berth]. After that day, it is all about him. All about his numbers, his performances, his clean sheets, his titles and his professionalism," said Mourinho.

In his first season, Big Pete set a new record in Premier League by not conceding a goal in 1,025 minutes. Later Edwin van der Sar,

Manchester United

's goalkeeper, broke Cech's record. At the end of the season, he won Premier League Golden Glove.

On 14 October 2006, in the competition between Chelsea and

Reading

, an incident happened to Petr Cech, which nearly cost his life. In the first minute of the game, Stephen Hunt's knee hit the head of Cech. The goalkeeper lost consciousness and couldn't remember anything for the next three days. He suffered a depressed skull fracture and underwent surgery for it. "I lost consciousness; then, I came round again. Some people did not like me too much because I was confused, and sometimes when you're confused, you try to fight!"

He continued: "I had a depressed skull fracture. A few pieces of bone went in quite deep, which was the biggest danger. The more they go in, the left side of the brain (where Cech was injured) is quite an important center of the movement. Anything could happen."

He returned after three months and wore a helmet. "I have to say a lot of people did not want me to return a quickly as I did. It was my decision and my will to come back to what I was used to doing and what I love. Once the surgeon said the skull is strong enough with the helmet on, I decided to return to training with the team," said Cech.

The Czech goalkeeper won the Premier League title on four occasions, FA Cup title four times, three Football League Cup titles, FA Community Shield two times, one UEFA Champions League title, as well as one UEFA Europa League title during 11 years with the Blues.

In the 2014-15 season, due to his long-standing injury, he was not the first-choice keeper. At the end of the season, he left the Blues and joined Chelsea's rival Arsenal for around £10 million.

"Last summer, things changed, and I understood I was no longer the first-choice keeper, but I felt it was not the right time for me to go. During the season, it became clear that my situation would not improve and, as I know I am not at the stage of my career where I want to be on the bench, I made my decision to move on and look for new challenges," he tweeted.

I'm amazed people talk about my helmet - saying it makes me feel psychologically better. I would love to play without it, but I'm not allowed to by the doctor. As long as I'm told by the doctor I'm running too much risk to play without it, I'll play with it. There's no other way for me
