Definitely one of the Best ever Dortmund Midfielders, Michael Zorc spent his entire career at Dortmund. He first signed for Dortmund in 1981 and stayed with his beloved club for the next seventeen years.
Michael Zorc is the all-time record holder for appearance in the history of Dortmund with 463 games. He was also an excellent goal scorer with 131 goals registered to his name during his time at Dortmund. Zorc helped Dortmund to win a total of 9 trophies including two Bundesliga and most importantly the 1996-96 UEFA Champions League title.
Michael Zorc retired from playing football in 1998 and was appointed later as the club's sporting director.

The famous football coach and former defensive midfielder is among Best Dortmund Midfielders of all time. Reuter joined Dortmund in 1992 after impressive spells with Juventus and Bayern Munich.
Reuter spent twelve seasons at Dortmund and won 9 trophies including the Bundesliga in 1994–95, 1995–96 and 2001–02, and the UEFA Champions League in 1996–97. With Reuter marshalling the defense and midfield lines, Dortmund also reached the final of the UEFA Cup in both 1993 and 2002.
In total, Stefan Reuter played 307 games for Dortmund and scored 11 goals in the Bundesliga before retiring in 2004. He also had a very successful career with Germany national team and scored 2 goals in 69 games.
Another one-club player in our list of Best Dortmund Midfielders of all time, Lars Ricken is most famous for his unbelievable goal from long-distance in the final of the 1996–97 UEFA Champions League against Juventus. The goal was the fastest in a final of the competition by a substitute, as Ricken scored only 16 seconds after coming on as a substitute.
Overall, Ricken scored 49 goals in 301 games for Dortmund. He was the youngest player to ever appear for the club in an official match, until the record was broken by Nuri Sahin. Ricken played 16 games for Germany national team and was a member of the team who reached the final of the 2002 World Cup.

One of the All-time Best Midfielders at Dortmund, Dede spent 13 years at the club and won two Bundesliga titles. During his time he played both at the left-back and midfielder positions. He started his Dortmund career in 1998 after a brief spell with Atletico Miniero and stayed for thirteen seasons.
Overall, Dede played in almost 400 games for Dortmund and scored 15 goals. He reached the Champions League final with Dortmund. In the latter stages of his spell with Dortmund, Dede suffered from many injuries and left the club in 2011. He retired from football three years later.
Sebastian Kehl started his playing career at Hannover in 1998 and moved to Dortmund four years later. Kehl made his Dortmund debut in the match against Bayern Munich. He stayed at the club for 13 seasons, during which he scored 22 goals in 362 games. He is widely considered as one of the best Dortmund Midfielders of all time.
Sebastian Kehl was one of the first Dortmund captains in the era of Jurgen Klopp. In total he won six trophies with Dortmund including three Bundesliga titles. He also reached the 2012-13 UEFA Champions League final in which Dortmund lost 2-1 to Bayern Munchen.
At international level, Sebastian Kehl played 31 games for Germany, scoring 2 goals. He represented his country at the 2002 and 2006 FIFA World Cups.

Definitely one of the best Dortmund midfielders of all time, Manfred Burgsmuller played for seven seasons at the club, winning the 1987-88 Bundesliga title along the way.
Although Burgsmuller was used mainly as a striker in his previous teams, he changed his position to attacking midfielder at Dortmund and the change paid off incredibly as he scored a total of 135 goals in 224 games for the club.
His best season at Dortmund was the 1981-82 season in which he scored 27 goals and were the second best goalscorer of the season, two goals behind Bayern Munich legend, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. Burgsmuller left Dortmund in 1985 and went on to play for Nurnberg and Werder Bremen before retiring at the age of 40.
The only Asian in our list of Best Dortmund Midfielders ever, Shinji Kagawa became a fan favorite in his very first season at the club when he claimed before the Riverderby against Schalke that he would score a brace and he accomplished the feat.
Kagawa won the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund in 2012 as the team set a Bundesliga record scoring the most points in a season in the Bundesliga, with 81. He then left Dortmund for a three-year spell at Manchester United, but came back after to play another five seasons for his beloved club.
Overall, the Japanese midfielder scored 60 goals in 216 games for Dortmund across all competitions and won a total of four titles.

Many fans consider Marco Reus as the best Dortmund Midfielders of all time. Reus has spent 9 seasons at Dortmund and has been the captain of the team since 2018. He joined Dortmund in 2012 after a highly successful three-season spell at Borussia Monchengladbach.

Moller spent 6 seasons at Dortmund during two different spells with the club. Moller won several domestic titles with Dortmund, including consecutive Bundesliga titles in 1995 and 1996 as well as the Champions League in 1997.
Moller put a legendary performance for Dortmund in the final, setting up the first goal with a corner and assisting the other two as the team defeated Moller's old club, Juventus 3-1.

The German legendary midfielder spent five fruitful seasons at Dortmund from 1993 to 1998 in which he won many important collective and individual titles with the club including the Bundesliga and Super Cup in 1995, the Bundesliga, Super Cup, European Footballer of the Year and the Ballon d'OR in 1996, and the UEFA Champions League and Intercontinental Cup in 1997.
Sammer is one of the All-time Best Midfielders at Dortmund without a doubt. He scored 21 goals in 115 games for the club. Sammer had a very successful international career as well. He played more than a hundred gamed for Germany national team and won the UEFA European Championship in 1996.
After his retirement from playing, Sommer became a manager and later coached Dortmund for four seasons. He won his only Bundesliga title as a manager in 2001-02. His achievements with Dortmund was huge and World Soccer named him among the 100 Greatest Footballers of All Time.

- Jurgen Schutz –played 158 games in his two spells with Dortmund from 1959 to 1972 and scored 133 goals. He won The Bundesliga title in 1963.
- Henrikh Mkhitaryan.- Played only three seasons at Dortmund, but scored 41 goals in 141 games and was Bundesliga Assist Leader in the 2015–16 season.
- Dieter Kurrat – the German midfielder spent 14 years at Dortmund from 1960 to 1974 and played 309 games for the club. He won three titles and became a hero of the fans.
- · Alfred Kelbassa. Spent nine seasons at Dortmund from 1954 to 1963 and scored 104 goals in 183 games.
- · Mario Goetze. The 2014 World Cup final scorer has had two spells with Dortmund. Overall he has scored 35 goals in 158 games. Goetze won a total of five trophies with the Yellow-Blacks.
