It is impossible to be a football fan and have not heard the name of AS Roma! In this article, after reviewing the honors of this proud club, we will present a list of the Best AS Roma players of all time in our opinion!

Founded in 1927, AS Roma Football Club is a professional football club based in Rome, Italy and competing in the Italian Serie A.

The club has been in Serie A throughout its history, except for the 1950-51 season. Since 1953, Rome has been hosting its home games at the Rome Olympic Stadium; A stadium with a capacity of 72,000 spectators, which is also used by their compatriot Lazio. Rome Olympic is the second largest stadium in Italy after San Siro.

Their home colors are carmine red and gold yellow; the presence of this "Belarusian" team also means yellows and reds. The symbol of AS Rome is a female wolf feeding to babies, inspired by the myth of the founding of Rome.

The first player of the list of the greatest AS Roma players of all time in our opinion is Francesco Totti.

Born in Rome, Totti started his professional football career with AS Roma and said goodbye to football after 25 years at the same club!

This popular and attractive player who had excellent scoring ability, vision and technique in the game, had several titles including Er Bimbo de Oro (The Golden Boy), L'Ottavo Re di Roma (The Eighth King of Rome), Er Pupone ( The Big Baby), Il Capitano (The Captain), and Il Gladiatore (The Gladiator).

Among the honors of this brilliant player with AS Roma we can mention Serie A title (1), Coppa Italia (2), and Supercoppa Italiana (2).

And from the individual point of view, being a part of UEFA Euro 2000 Team of the Tournament, ESM Team of the Year (3), and FIFA 100, he was Serie A Young Footballer of the Year (1), Serie A Footballer of the Year (2), Serie A Italian Footballer of the Year (5), Serie A Assist Leader (3), and Serie A Top Scorer in 2006–07.

The second player in the list of the best AS Roma footballers of all time in our opinion is Bruno Conti.

Conti spent his entire career at AS Roma and spent only two seasons on loan in Genoa during those 18 years. Usually played as a winger, he was considered by many experts to be one of the best Italian players in his position.

He was very fast, creative, flexible and technical and was one of the most fanatical players in the history of AS Roma. Conti once said: “Roma is my life. You don’t discuss Roma, you just love this club.”

His honors with AS Roma are one Serie A title in 1982–83 and four Coppa Italia in 1979–80, 1980–81, 1983–84, 1985–86 and 1990–91.

And from the individual point of view, being a player of the FIFA World Cup Team of the Tournament in 1982, he was inducted into the A.S. Roma Hall of Fame and Italian Football Hall of Fame.

The nickname given to him by his fans, "The Mayor of Rome" alone reflects his place in the history of the club!

The next player in the list of best players in AS Roma history in our opinion is Giuseppe Giannini.

Before Totti, the club's symbol was Giannini in the eyes of his fans. The technical midfielder, whose shots were very accurate and artistic, turned down offers to play for better teams so that he could remain with his native Roma.

He was a technical player with good vision and great creativity who was a key player in the team in terms of playmaking. This versatile and powerful player spent most of his 16-year career in Rome.

His honors with AS Roma are one Serie A title in 1982–83, and three Coppa Italia in 1983–84, 1985–86 and 1990–91.

The next player in the list of the best footballers in the history of AS Roma in our opinion is Roberto Pruzzo.

Pruzzo, one of the best Italian strikers of his generation, spent ten years of his career from 1978 to 1988 at AS Roma, during which time he was one of the team's most influential and key players in all competitions.

He is known as a strong and hard-working striker who focused his technical games on goal and was a capable and scoring scorer due to his high accuracy, physical ability and excellent performance in the air.

Shortly after retiring in 1989, Pruzzo began his coaching career.

His honors with AS Roma are one Serie A title in 1982–83, and four Coppa Italia in 1979–80, 1980–81, 1983–84 and 1985–86.

And from the individual point of view, he was Serie A top-scorer in 1980–81, 1981–82 and 1985–86, and Coppa Italia top-scorer in 1979–80 season, and was inducted into the A.S. Roma Hall of Fame in 2012.

When Falcao joined Roma in 1980, he had to first gain a place in the hearts of fans who did not know him well and doubted him and his abilities!

But his performance in the early 1980s showed that he is not only a valuable and effective player for AS Roma, but also one of the best Brazilian players and perhaps the whole world in his generation.

Roma fans, who were always thrilled to see him play, dubbed him "the eighth King of Rome", which beautifully reflects his value to the club.

Among his honors with AS Roma we can mention two Coppa Italia in 1980–81 and 1983–84, one Serie A title in 1982–83, and one European Cup Runner-up in 1983–84.

And from the individual point of view, this honorable player was a part of the Bola de Prata Brazilian Championship All-Star Team (3), FIFA World Cup All-Star Team (1), FIFA XI (1), World Soccer's 100 Greatest Footballers of All Time, and FIFA 100.

Being the Bola de Ouro Brazilian Footballer of the Year (2) and Silver ball South American Player of the Year (1), he won FIFA World Cup Silver Ball in 1982, Onze de Bronze in 1982 and Onze d'Argent in 1983, and honored as Golden Foot as football legend.

#6 Daniele De Rossi

The next player in the list of best AS Roma players ever in our opinion is Daniele De Rossi.

Retired in January 2020, De Rossi spent all but one year of his professional football career with AS Roma. With 616 appearances for Roma in all competitions, he is the club's second-most capped player of all time, behind Totti.

He was very popular with the club's fans, and those who predicted that he would receive the captain's armband after Totti's retirement called him ‘Capitan futuro’ (future captain).

This prediction was correct and this loyal, accurate and worthy player was the team captain from the time Totti retired until 2019, when he left Roma.

His honors with AS Roma are two Coppa Italia in 2006–07 and 2007–08, and Supercoppa Italiana in 2007.

The next player in the list of all-time greatest AS Roma players in our opinion is Amedeo Amadei.

Known as one of the best Italian strikers of all time, Amadei was known for his speed in moving the ball and finding empty spaces behind opposing team defenders.

Despite his short stature, he performed flawlessly in the air, scoring consistently with his technical and tactical skills.

His was a key player of the AS Roma's team who won the Serie A title in 1941–42, and from the individual point of view, he won the Seminatore d'Oro in 1957–58.

Inducted into the A.S. Roma Hall of Fame in 2012 and Italian Football Hall of Fame in 2018, he really deserves to be in this list!

The next player in the list of best AS Roma players of all time in our opinion is Giacomo Losi.

#8 Giacomo Losi

  • Full name: Giacomo Losi
  • Date of birth: 10 September 1935 (age 85)
  • Place of birth: Soncino, Cremona, Italy
  • Height: 1.69 m (5 ft 7 in)
  • Playing position(s): Full-back

The next player in the list of greatest AS Roma players of all time in our opinion is Giacomo Losi.

Although he was not originally a native, Losi spent his entire career at AS Roma, where he had a record 450 appearances for the team in his 15 years. This record was later broken in January 2007 with Totti's 451st game.

One of the brightest moments of his time with Roma was against Sampdoria in 1961. Although he was seriously injured, Losi refused to leave the field and 10 minutes before the end of the game, scoring a heroic goal, made the result 3-2 in favor of Rome. It was after this game that Roma fans nicknamed him Core de Roma (Heart of Rome).

His honors with AS Roma are one Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in 1960–61, and two Coppa Italia in 1963–64 and 1968–69.

He was inducted into the A.S. Roma Hall of Fame.

The next player of our list of best AS Roma footballers of all time in our opinion is Aldair Nascimento dos Santos.

Able to play as a sweeper and center-back, Aldair played so technically and artistically that he excited the audience. His skill in sending long and accurate passes allowed him to plan an attack from the defensive line and give his teammates a scoring opportunity.

He was not very fast, but his physical strength made up for it, and in addition, his performance in the air was excellent.

He played for Roma for 13 years and during all this time was one of the most influential and key players in the team.

His honors with AS Roma are one Serie A in 2000–01, one Coppa Italia in 1990–91, ans one Supercoppa Italiana in 2001.

And from the individual point of view, being a part of FIFA XI of 2000, and named as Golden Foot as football legend in 2008, he was inducted into the A.S. Roma Hall of Fame in 2012.

#10 Di Bartolomei

  • Date of birth: 8 April 1955
  • Place of birth: Rome, Italy
  • Date of death: 30 May 1994 (aged 39)
  • Place of death: San Marco di Castellabate, Italy
  • Height: 1.80 m (5 ft 11 in)
  • Playing position(s): Central midfielder, Sweeper

The last player of our list of best footballers in the history of AS Roma in our opinion is Agostino Di Bartolomei.

He is known as one of the greatest players in the history of Italian football who have never been capped by the Italian national team!

He was a technical and versatile player who had the ability to play with the ball with delicacy and it was always fascinating for the fans of Roma to watch his games.

After Nils Liedholm’s return as coach of A.S. Roma, Di Bartolomei became the team’s undisputed leader, rising to the title of captain and becoming a favorite fan. When he played, it was common to hear the Roma fans sing Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, Agostino, Ago, Ago, Ago, Agostino gol !!!

Some of his honors with AS Roma are one Serie A title in 1982–83, three Coppa Italia in 1979–80, 1980–81 and 1983–84, and one European Cup Runner-up in 1983–84.
