It is even more than the goals some forwards and midfielders have scored during their careers! Who is that untouchable legend? Rogerio Ceni of Brazil with 131 goals scored during his career. He’s not only the highest goal scoring goalkeeper of all time but also the holder of some other records we are going to discuss below.

The list of top scorer goalkeepers of all time, as you know, starts with Rogerio Ceni of Brazil, the highest scoring goalkeeper in the world football, ever, but what about the rest of the list? Read on to know!

Rogerio Ceni (131 Goals)

Number one on the list of best goal scoring goalkeepers of all time, Rogerio Ceni has scored 131 goals during his career which lasted from 1990 to 2015. That’s unbelievable! With that number of goals (131) he is actually the top goal scoring goalkeeper ever in the history of football. In other words, most goals scored by a goalkeeper ever in the history of football have been scored by Rogerio Ceni. He’s also the only goalkeeper in the world to have scored more than 100 goals during his career.

As mentioned above, Rogerio Ceni is not only the highest goal scoring goalkeeper of all time but also the holder of a number of records. The 47-year-old retired Brazilian goalkeeper has also taken the most number of free kicks (62) and the most number of penalties (70) a goalkeeper has ever taken.

He has scored a record 14 goals in Copa Libertadores (6 from free kicks and 8 from penalties), and a record 65 goals (27 from free kicks and 38 from penalties) in the Brazilian Serie A League which is the top tier of Brazil’s football league system.

Ceni is also the only goalkeeper to have played in 5 matches where he has scored 2 goals in each of them. The Brazilian goalkeeper served only one club during his career, namely Sao Paulo of the Brazilian Serie A League, from 1990 to 2015 during which he scored 65 goals in the 576 appearances that he made for the Brazilian club only at league level.

Jose Luis Chilavert (67 Goals)

The second goalkeeper on the list of best goal scoring goalkeepers of all time, Jose Luis Chilavert is also the only goalkeeper in the world to have scored a hat trick (3 goals in a single match). It’s something even Rogerio Ceni with his handful of records could not manage to do. So, although Chilavert is the second top goal scoring goalkeeper ever, he’s the first and only goalkeeper in the world to have scored a hat trick.

Unlike Ceni who only served one club - Sao Paulo - during his career, Chilavert served seven clubs during his footballing time with some of them being Real Zaragoza of Spain, Strasbourg of France, and Velez Sarsfield of Argentina. From among all the 67 goals Chilavert scored during his career, 46 were scored at league level, and from these 46 goals, 36 were scored only for one club: Velez Sarsfield.

The 55-year-old retired Paraguayan goalkeeper has also played for the Paraguayan national team and has also scored 8 goals in the 74 appearances that he has made for them between 1989 and 2003 which actually translates to almost one goal in every 9 appearances that he has made for them.

This is also a record he has set; no other goalkeeper among the highest goal scoring goalkeepers of all time has scored that number of goals (8) at international level.

Johnny Vegas Fernandez (45 Goals)

The third goalkeeper on the list of best goal scoring goalkeepers of all time, Johnny Vegas Fernandez is a retired Peruvian goalkeeper who has scored a total of 45 goals during his career 40 of which have been scored at league level and in first division.

Almost half of the goals Fernandez has scored during his career - actually 20 - have been scored for one club: The Peruvian Sport Boys and in the 189 appearances that Fernandez has made for them.

Sport Boys is actually the club Fernandez has made the most number of appearances for; actually 6 to 8 times higher than the clubs he served during his career. And from all the 45 goals the Peruvian goalkeeper has scored during his career 30 have been scored from the penalty spot and 15 are in-game goals. He has also appeared for the Peruvian national team between 1999 and 2000 but didn’t score any goals for them.

Dimitar Ivankov (42 Goals)

The only Bulgarian goalkeeper on the list of best goal scoring goalkeepers of all time, Dimitar Ivankov has scored 42 goals during his career and for three clubs, namely the top-tier Bulgarian club, Levski Sofia, the top-tier Turkish club, Kayserispor, and the second-tier Turkish club, Bursaspor, between 1996 and 2012.

Maybe the best moment in the footballing career of Dimitar Ivankov was when he helped the Turkish club, Kayserispor, win the Turkish cup in 2008 by saving 3 penalties and scoring two for them.

Despite this, it is the Bulgarian club, Levski Sofia, that gets the biggest share of Ivankov’s goals: actually 24 goals in the 275 appearances that he made for them between 1996 and 2005 which is four times higher than the number of goals he scored for Kayserispor. Ivankov also made 64 appearances for the Bulgarian national team between 1998 and 2010 but didn’t score any goals for them.

Rene Higuita (41 Goals)

Known for his scorpion kick save in the friendly match against England in 1995, Rene Higuita occupies the fifth position on the list of best goal scoring goalkeepers of all time with only one goal behind the fourth position, Dimitar Ivankov. The Colombian goalkeeper has scored 41 goals during his career which lasted from 1985 to 2009 in the 380 appearances that he has made for more than 10 clubs.

Higuita has scored for the Colombian club, Independiente Medellin, more than any other club during his career: 11 goals in 20 appearances which means he scored one goal for the Colombian club in every other appearance he made for them.

Quite a record for a goalkeeper! It is actually most goals scored by a goalkeeper ever in only 20 matches. The 54-year-old retired Colombian goalkeeper has also made 68 appearances for his country’s national team scoring 3 goals for them in the process.

Marcio Santos Souza (39 Goals)

The second Brazilian goalkeeper on the list of best goal scoring goalkeepers of all time, Marcio Luiz Silva Lopes Santos Souza, simply known as Marcio Santos Souza, has scored 39 goals to this date in the 534 appearances that he has made at league level.

Actually all his goals have been scored at league level and 38 of them only for one club, namely the Brazilian club, Atletico Goianiense for whom he has played for nine years between 2007and 2016 - more than any other club - and has made 521 appearances during this time.

As mentioned above, Souza scored 38 of his 39 goals for only one club, Atletico Goianiense. And the other one goal?! Ja! That was scored for the Brazilian club, Goias, in 2016-17 season. Souza is the first goalkeeper on the list who has not retired yet. He’s 39 years old and is currently playing for the Brazilian club, Ipatinga.

Fernando Patterson (35 Goals)

Occupying the 7th position on the list of best goal scoring goalkeepers of all time, Fernando Patterson is a retired goalkeeper from Costa Rica - also the first Costa Rican goalkeeper on the list, who has scored 35 goals during his footballing career which actually lasted from 1989 to 2013.

From among all the 35 goals Patterson has scored during his career 16 have been scored for the Guatemalan club, Xelaju, which actually comprise 45% of all his goals. Patterson also appeared once for the Costa Rican national team in 1993 but never scored a goal for them.

Hans-Jorg Butt (32 Goals)

The first German goalkeeper on the list of best goal scoring goalkeepers of all time, Hans-Jorg Butt has scored 32 goals during his career which lasted from 1994 to 2009. From all the 32 goals the German goalkeeper has scored 26 have been scored in Bundesliga - 81% of all his goals - and from all his Bundesliga goals 19 have been scored only for one club, Hamburger SV, which actually comprise 73% of all his Bundesliga goals and 59% of all the goals he has scored during his career.

Butt was not only known for his penalty taking abilities during his career but also for his runs into the opposing penalty box whenever his team was trailing. He also scored three goals in the UEFA Champions League during his footballing time which is actually a record for him; no other goalkeeper among the top scorer goalkeepers of all time has scored more than three goals in the European competition.

The 46-year-old retired German goalkeeper also played for Bayern Munich during his career but did not score any goals in the 63 appearances that he made for them.

Misael Alfaro (31 Goals)

The only Salvadorian goalkeeper on the list of best goal scoring goalkeepers of all time, Misael Alfaro scored 31 goals for Salvadorian clubs during his career which lasted from 1988 to 2010. He also made 42 appearances for the El Salvador national team between 1991 and 2005 bud didn’t score any goals for them.

Misael Alfaro’s complete name is Alvaro Misael Alfaro Sanchez. He’s actually one of those footballers who has managed more teams than he has played for: He actually managed 9 Salvadorian teams - mostly as a goalkeeper coach, while he only played for 7 teams during his footballing career.

Dragan Pantelic (26 Goals)

The first Yugoslavian goalkeeper on the list of best goal scoring goalkeepers of all time, Dragan Pantelic has scored 26 goals during his career which lasted from 1971 to 1985. From among all these 26 goals 18 were scored at league level - actually 69% of all the goals he scored, and from all the goals he scored at league level 15 were scored only for one club, namely the Yugoslavian club, Radnicki Nis, which actually comprise 83% of all his league goals.

Maybe the most memorable moment in the footballing career of Dragan Pantelic was when he scored the winning goal against the Yugoslavian club, Velez Mostar, right from his own penalty box. He has also served the Yugoslavian national team between 1979 and 1984 and even scored two goals in the 19 appearances that he made for them.

Sebastian Saja (25 Goals)

The first Argentinian goalkeeper on the list of best goal scoring goalkeepers of all time who is only by one goal behind the 10th position occupied by Dragan Pantelic, Sebastian Saja occupies the 11th position on the list with the 25 goals he has scored during his career which actually lasted from 2000 to 2017.

From among all the 25 goals Saja has scored 19 have been scored at league level which actually comprise 76% of all Saja’s goals, and from 19 goals that Saja has scored at league level 11 - 57% of all his league goals - have been scored for the Argentinian club, San Lorenzo. The 41-year-old retired Argentinian goalkeeper has also made 4 appearances for the Argentinian national team but has not scored any goals for them.

Cristian Lucchetti (25 Goals)

The second Argentinian goalkeeper right after the first one on the list of best goal scoring goalkeepers of all time, Cristian Lucchetti also shares his position (11th) with his countryman, Sebastian Saja, with the 25 goals he has scored during his career.

He’s the second goalkeeper after Marcio Santos Souza who is not retired yet. He’s 42 years old and currently plays for the Argentinian club, Atletico Tucuman - he’s actually been since 2012.

One fact about Cristian Lucchetti is that he has scored all his 25 goals at league level and from all these 25 goals 16 have been scored for only one club: Banfield which actually comprise 64% of all his goals.

He also won one Primera Division (top tier of the Argentinian football league system) title with the same club (Banfield) in 2009. Unlike his counterpart, Sebastian Saja, Cristian Lucchetti has never served the Argentinian national team.

Marco Cornez (24 Goals)

The first Chilean goalkeeper on the list of best goal scoring goalkeepers of all time, Marco Cornez has scored 24 goals for five Chilean clubs during his career which lasted from 1975 to 1998.

And all his goals for these teams were scored at league level which means he has actually scored no goals in other matches than league ones. However, in terms of the most goals scored by a goalkeeper ever in Chile, he’s number one, because no other Chilean goalkeeper has scored that number of goals.

Cornez was also the Chile’s reserve goalkeeper at 1982 FIFA World Cup but he had never the chance to play for his country’s national team let alone scoring for them. Cornez is by now 62 years old; he’s the father of Chilean manager - and also former footballer, Nicolas Cordova. He’s also the one who discovered Christiane Endler, the female talent who is the current goalkeeper of PSG and Chilean women’s national team.

Zarko Lucic (23 Goals)

The second Yugoslavian goalkeeper on the list of best goal scoring goalkeepers of all time, Zarko Lucic has scored 23 goals in the 385 appearances that he has made for seven clubs during his career.

That means the Yugoslavian goalkeeper has averagely scored one goal in every 17 appearances that he has made throughout his career which lasted  actually from 1992 to 2008. And from all the 23 goals Lucic scored during his career 15 were scored for only one club, namely Budućnost Podgorica, which actually comprise 65% of all his goals.

Lucic also made 5 appearances for the former Yugoslavian national team between 2000 and 2001 but never scored a goal for them. The 51-year-old retired Yugoslavian goalkeeper has also worked as a manager - indeed after his retirement as a footballer and exactly as goalkeepers coach - for three clubs, namely Zeta, Dacia Chisinau, and Rudar Pljevlja.

Vincent Enyeama (20 Goals)

The first African and also the first Nigerian goalkeeper on the list of best goal scoring goalkeepers of all time, Vincent Enyeama has scored 20 goals during his career which lasted from 1999 to 2018. All these goals were scored at league level and in the 506 appearances that he made for seven clubs during his career. That means the retired Nigerian goalkeeper has scored one goal in every 25 appearances that he has made during career on average.

However, the goals Enyeama has scored during his career are not evenly distributed among the seven clubs he has served. From all the 20 goals he has scored, 10 have been scored for the top Nigerian club, Enyimba, 9 for the Israeli club, Hapoel Tel Aviv, and one for another Nigerian club named Ibom Stars.

Vincent Enyeama was the Hapoel Tel Aviv main penalty taker and maybe that’s why the Israeli club has got a bigger share of his goals. Enyeama also served the Nigerian national team from 2002 to 2015 but never scored a goal in the 101 appearances that he made for them.

The List of Highest Scoring Goalkeepers in the World Football Does not End Here

For sure! The list of top scorer goalkeepers of all time does not end here. The list continues despite the fact that the goals scored by the goalkeepers mentioned in this post may not be among the great goals scored by goalkeepers ever, although some of them are like the winning one scored by Dragan Pantelic against the Yugoslavian club, Velez Mostar.

Also please note that the first goalkeeper on the following list has scored 21 goals (actually more than Vincent Enyeama), but since there was not enough information on him and the goals he has scored we have to just mention him briefly in the following list.
