The team played its first competitive game on May 13, 1902, when it advanced to the semifinals of the Campeonato de Copa de S.M. Alfonso XIII. The team was founded in 1902 under the name Madrid Football 'Club.

David Ginola scored the Parisians' second goal in the 81st minute, while Valdo himself scored the 3rd one, three minutes to the end of the match. He was the star of the match with no doubt, as he helped Antoine Kombouaré to score the last goal of the match in the 93rd minute!
On the other side of the field, Iván Zamorano scored the only goal for Real Madrid in the first minute of the extra time.

Fernando Torres and Steven Gerard, and Dossena were the ones to score for Liverpool during the match, with Gerard netting twice.

José Augusto, Eusébio, António Simões, and Mário Coluna are in Benfica’s scoresheet, while Amancio scored the only goal for Real Madrid in the 58th minute of the match.

The team and their coach, Vujadin Boškov, went under a lot of pressure during the match as three players received red cards during the match. Isidoro San José, Laurie Cunningham, and Francisco Pineda were the three players who were forced to leave the pitch and so Real was forced to continue the match with only eight players after the 65th minute of the match.

Having the record of Cup defeat, Valencia opened the Vikings gate six times during the match, with four goals in the first half and two more during the second half.

Gallart, Solé, Padrón, Bosch, Ventolrà, andÁlamo were the Espanyol players to score for their team, while Rubio on the other side, scored once for Real.
