Deschamps: Dembele felt pain in a calf and will miss the Denmark game

Ousmane Dembele was sidelined with a calf injury on the day of France's Nations League match against Denmark.

With the

Barcelona

winger reporting a calf injury,

Didier Deschamps

may be without

Ousmane Dembele

for Sunday's Nations League match against Denmark.

Deschamps will likely make several substitutions for the encounter in Copenhagen because it will be played less than two months before the teams meet again in the World Cup group stage.

France needs a win to ensure they stay in the Nations League's elite division, but Deschamps won't force anyone to play. Deschamps stated that Ousmane "felt discomfort in a calf and will train separately".

"We will review after the session. I will make changes, but I won't decide tonight. I will wait for the medical return and the feelings of the players. There will be changes, but I won't tell you how many."

Group D at Qatar 2022 will include France and Denmark, Australia and Tunisia, and their second round of games is set for November 26.

After

Karim Benzema

put the hosts ahead in the opening match of the Nations League in June at the Stade de France,

Denmark

came back to win with two goals from Andreas Cornelius. However, Deschamps claims there is little to gain on Sunday in preparation for the World Cup match.

"The only advantage is for players who are there and who will have the possibility of starting or coming on,"

he said.

"I'm not going to get any particular benefit from it otherwise. In Qatar, it will be another game, but the teams will know each other well, that's true."

Due to Milan's goalkeeper, Mike Maignan's injury during Thursday's 2-0 victory over Austria, West Ham's

Alphonse Areola

has been called upon to start in goal against the Danes. Since

Hugo Lloris

, the starter, was injured and unable to play against Austria, Areola got some playing time in the second half.

Five times this season, the 29-year-old former Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper has played for West Ham, but four outings have been in the Europa Conference League.

"He will start. I see goalkeepers starting in the national team and not in the club. Alphonse has been more or less a starter. Every time he plays, he performs well. Alphonse is there because he has quality."
