Kimmich says it's too late to back out of the World Cup in Qatar

with mixed feelings, but he says it's too late to expect players to boycott the tournament.

player claims that today, just two months before the tournament kicks off, is not the moment for action but 12 years ago, when Qatar was given the event.

On Tuesday, before Germany's

Nations League

games against Hungary and

England

, Kimmich addressed the media. This was the final time Hansi Flick's squad would be together before the coach made his World Cup roster cuts.

Since Qatar was unexpectedly given hosting rights in December 2010, the event has been moved to the less common months of November and December. Human rights concerns have continued and will undoubtedly be present throughout the event.

"As a player, you're always extremely keen on a World Cup,"

 Kimmich remarked. 

"There's a lot of discussion about it this year, and rightly so." 

 He emphasized that climate-related difficulties, which have resulted in the tournament being moved to the fall, were known about when Qatar was awarded the tournament. At the end of the day, players are constantly asked to boycott, he continued. To put it bluntly, we missed the boat by 12 years. Things like that need to be planned for ahead of time.

"At the end of the day, players are always asked for a boycott. We're 12 years too late. Something like that has to be taken into account beforehand. It's a balancing act. On the one hand, you're looking forward to the huge event; on the other hand, there are these grievances that we address again and again."

Prior to the World Cup, Germany has also been competing in the Nations League, where they won one game and drew three. 

"You have in mind that this is preparation for the World Cup," Kimmich said. "But after that we have a block of club football where we need to get our points. Of course, it's all preparation for the World Cup, but as a footballer you want to be in form every three days."
